Well, looks like the device used in Minority report all over the city for eye scanning may soon be a reality.

Well, B & O's Beolab 3500 isn't an iPOD speaker, but I think they have cornered the market on designs like these. Not saying they're worth it, but they're certainly slim and elegant.
Pricing should be at the same price, or slightly above that of the BV5, which was around $20,000. THis baby has a built in HD recorder, ethernet input, and a gazillion other inouts / outputs... as mentioned.

Re: The picture above with 4 Beolab 5 speakers: At $20,000 a pair, all that equipment is a bit over $60,000... Ugh... If I had that money to burn I'd buy those in a second.

B & O is not just eye candy... They last FOREVER and sound GREAT.

Specs, of course, for some of their products could be better.

What Engadget failed to mention was that this recall was initiated not by the CPSC but by Segway, and the circumstances of the "glitch" are specific, and virtually impossible when riding responsibly.

In essence, the Segway must be at speed limiter (top speed), then the control shaft must be suddenly pulled back, the rider's foot off and then back on the platform, for the segway to reverse torque.

Again, virtually impossible unless you're doing something silly.

I think those users who have experienced this were doing things which were, lets say, not recommended.

I am cheap and lazy, and I love it: I don't have to / want to pedal 3 miles each way to and from work, and I don't have to pay for gas.

I am willing to live with the ridicule. I love my Segway.

Jeff,

My mother uses a Segway in NYC, and she gets nothing but smiles. The Segway, even though it's in legal limbo: NOT ILLEGAL and NOT LEGAL, is PERFECT for NYC, and any relatively modern urban city.

When I visit I bring mine along and we glide together because she doesn't want to be stuck in traffic, or negotiate between cars on a bicycle.

It is a wonderful mode of transport. Police accept it, and so do pedestrians.

She has been gliding there for over two years. So Jeff, before you mouth off about how hated the Segway is in NYC, maybe you should do your research. Just because you live there, doesn't mean you know about the Segway and it's integration in to urban infrastructure.

It's still new, so people are scared and confused.

Try it before you bash it. This is an AMAZING form of transport, and quite legitimate as well. It's quite alarming that people who monitor a tech site like this for the latest and greatest newfangled gadgetry are so down on this marvel of engineering.

Many have said that it's a solution waiting for a problem... well, open your eyes, we DO have a problem: $3 for gas? Taking the car a mile to get milk? Give me a break.

At least I know I'm having fun getting to and from work, to and from the grocery store, and wherever else I go.

This is actually the best money I have ever spent.

Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I am looking for a 12- or 13-inch ultraportable that can also play modern games at a reasonable level, for less than $1,000. I know the brainiacs out there can help me out. Love the site, thanks!"
