Theft is Bad Karma: Stop Pirating Photoshop! {Download Squad}
Aug 19th 2008 2:52PM I have PS Elements 6.0 and it rocks for photo organization and basic editing including layers. I am the "average-joe" user and PS Elements (which I purchased) still has features that are beyond my PS editing abilities. I can't imagine having a need for the full version of PS.
On a side note, when I want to do a quick resize of a photo to send in an email, I use Irfanview. A good simple to use program that is super fast for basic editing needs.

IrfanView 4.20 released, gets a minor facelift {Download Squad}
Jul 18th 2008 3:16PM I love IrfanView. I have Photoshop Elements to do the brunt of my picture manipulation and organization. But when I need to do a quick crop or resize to an image, IrfanView starts immediately with no load time and gets the quickie job done....and done well.
Apple shows off iPhone 3G guided tour {Engadget}
Jul 1st 2008 12:20PM I totally agree. The last time I installed QT a couple years ago, it stole my file associations and would not give them back. I changed the MIME settings and still had no luck. Everytime I clicked on a MP3 link in a webpage, QT would play it with their embedded player instead of Winamp. Even the QT forums on apple.com confirmed this "bug". Ever since, I refuse to install QT on my work or home machine.
Out of curiosity, did Apple ever fix this?

Amazon's MP3 store nearing global launch? {Engadget}
Jun 23rd 2008 4:22PM I disagree. Right now, iTunes is somewhat dictating the prices on the songs they sell. But once other online sellers (Amazon, Napster, TBD) start to get a bigger share of online music purchases, competition will drive the price down. If the record companies make the wholesale prices too expensive to the retailers, then consumers will simply stop purchasing their favorite music....and some will just find free downloads instead.
Like I said, price the MP3's at a fair price and most people will happily (and legally) purchase their favorite songs and albums instead of stealing them. Competition is healthy for the consumer...Apple (or any other single compnay) being so dominant as to be able to "fix" the prices is not good for the consumer.
Amazon's MP3 store nearing global launch? {Engadget}
Jun 23rd 2008 1:06PM I must say that I love the Amazon MP3 store. And I have now turned a couple friends and my girlfriend on to it. The breaking point was when she got a Zune and found that none of the music she purchased at the iTunes store would work on it. Not happy to say the least.
What I have found is that most average consumers, including my girlfriend, never realize that they are locked to an iPod when using iTunes. It's only when they try and hook up an alternate device and find that it won't work when the realization hits. Then, the consumer thinks that they simply did something wrong and get frustrated with the whole process. And then you have yet another average user that gets turned off to the whole idea of buying music online because it's too hard. And it's all because of DRM.
Thank gawd that my girlfriend has the geek boyfriend that taught her about the evils of DRM and to stay away from iTunes for buying music.
I hope that the record companies can pull their heads out of their asses to realize that fairly priced MP3's with no DRM will HELP, not hurt their bottom line.
