Why do you guys have an issue with Dell reinstating XP? It's a smart move. People either aren't ready for or don't want Vista, and there is no reason for Dell to outcast those consumers.
As for Michael Dell using Ubuntu, ploy or not, at least there is recognition of the open source availability of competing products. Whatever it takes to get the word out beyond the limits of the etherweb and the linux fanboys!
It really comes down to the economics of providing the option. If you can buy a Dell without an OS or with Linux installed, Dell could possibly see more profit as it will be cheaper than the Vista installed alternative, but could be priced to provide more income to Dell. I wouldn't pass off this option so quickly, especially if there is concern with Vista compatibility that scares off consumers.
It is a good point though, it may come down to providing a service to install Linux on your desktop rather than having Dell Linux PCs and Dell Vista PCs cohabitating. They could provide desktops without an OS and the last option is for Windows or Linux with an associated service cost to install either.
for those 10 million people willing to buy an iPhone for $400-500, i have a great piece of land that i would love to sale you for the same price.
i think their ego has got to them and apple has lost touch with the average consumer. i can't believe i said it, but it is becoming increasingly apparent to me.
Cement is only an ingredient of concrete. So these are not made of "pure cement" because that would just be a pile of powder, which wouldn't resonate all that well. This is a cool project, I'm curious about sound quality though. Sound absorbing insulation inside?
Is anyone else annoyed by the plethora of pointless iPhone stories? Just so everyone knows... the iPhone will not dress you in the morning. It will not cook you dinner (although ordering is possible). It will not bend the physics of the universe to your will (unfortunately). Most Importantly, it won't be here until June! I understand the point of Engadget is to discuss gadgets, and I love the site, but if I read one more time about this phone prior to it actually revolutionizing (or not) the cell phone world, I may just have to take down the whole cell phone grid, just so we can discuss something else.
Why you trying to hold a man down? Sure the CAPS lock key is under utilized... and maybe he only helps out a few people (including me as an architect, he's a lifesave) now that he is getting on in age (i hear he's pass 300 yrs old). But the guy has been around forever. Don't take him down just cuz he's a little crotchity (spelling? word?) and gets in your way from time to time. you'll be old one day too, and people may want to take you out. So set your cosmic Karma now and praise the poor old key and the service he has provided throughout his lifetime. Don't focus on just the recent events. Hell, we might not all be here if it wasn't for the CAPS lock... or at the very least we would have screwy looking pinky fingers from holding down shift.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
