I've tried other GPS apps to track my routes in the past, but the battery life in the 3G is so awful that the phone is dead in nearly 1 hour (even when starting from a full charge). Hopefully the handlebar holder also includes the ability to generate power for the phone.

Also, MTBers will definitely pass this one up, and serious road riders, not only concerned about weight (as one other commenter said) are generally travelling in packs, going very fast and need to keep their eyes on the road. Also, serious riders with cash to burn already have computer linkable cyclocomputers that integrate with heart rate, cadence and hub-based speed sensors.
I use a DiGPS unit with my D300...it can be mounted on the hotshoe (though is still interfaced to the camera via the 10-pin connector, like this Nikon unit) BUT the hotshoe mount also has a slot for putting it on the strap (what I do, since it's the only way to use it with the pop-up flash).

There are a bunch of GPS solutions out there...the DiGPS is really nice, and they have good customer service (they sent me 2 additional clips for free when my original broke - mainly because I screwed with it).

There's also the Red Hen unit, which mounts right on the 10-pin connector but receives signals from external Bluetooth GPS receivers.

Also, search for homebrew options - there are many (and many can be had for way less than Nikon's new solution).

Good luck!

It boggles the mind that the Federal government would move to eliminate analog TV while there are so many more pertinent issues requiring their attention. Are they going to offer tax credits so I can update my analog hardware to the mandated platform? I think not...if you're going to outlaw something, make it the media monopolies like ClearChannel, which spew worthless jabber and commercials, offer a half-%$#@ advance like digital radio and then wonder why people wont bite...it's the commercials, stupid.
wish it had GPS...the more I use my separate Bluetooth GPS unit with my PPC-6700 the more I wish it was built-in.
The baby leash is bad enough...perhaps those not wanting kids enough to actually give them attention shouldn't have them in the first place. Maybe I'm just a sensimental Dad but I actually enjoy spending time with my kid. I sincerely hope that this reference design, like the amphibious civilian car and the Ricochet network, is just a test to see where people want technology to go.

"The Answer" by Bad Religion...at least for now.

Please Please Please I'd like item 13, the Fossil Dick Tracy watch. I'm a mobile technology maniac, and nothing would profess my love for mobile tech more than the somewhat eccentric back-to-the-futurist watch. Dick was "the man", and the creators of it and other futurist/sci-fi entertainment were the first mobile tech strategists in history, IMO. What better way to project the next fifty years of mobile tech than wearing one envisioned 50 years ago.

Thanks for the opportunity!

"I commonly need to boot a system from an external disc and take a snapshot of the host system. I also then need to burn a copy of the image to a DVD. While I can do it with two separate external devices, and two power supplies, and two I/O cables, it'd be nice to find a small dual-drive enclosure. It would need to have USB, eSATA, and FireWire. Either slim-line or half-height bay for the optical burner would be fine, and space for either a 2.5- or 3.5-inch hard disc. Any ideas?"
