Great video! His momma must be so proud! My family had season tickets to the Jets for 30 years. There was a Raider fan who sat next to us for most of those years. Regardless of who the Jets were playing he came dressed in his Raider jersey and helmet. He's the only Raider fan who got a pass from the occasionally very obnoxious Jets fans when the Raiders came to town. He was just a big time football fan and probably the only non-obnoxious Raider fan I've ever met.
Not true, furious.george. I'm looking at a Touch with 2.2.1. Double punching the Home button at any time in any app brings up the volume and play controls, with or without music playing. Maybe it was different on 3.0, but not "always" since it works in 2.2.1.

I will not upgrade my Touch OS until Apple stops badgering me every time an update comes out. They should show me the update message ONCE. If I don't want it, I say No Thanks and that's end of it. Instead, every freaking time I plug in my iPod when an update is available I get the stupid update or else message. It took a few days before I was offered a "No Thanks" link. That's BS. Annoying users into buying stuff is not a great business model.

Apple just keeps on pissing me off. If Windows was even close to a usable OS I would switch in a heartbeat.
From the moment they signed Sexy Rexy I didn't really think that he would be anything other than the #2 and I'm fine with that. If I need a backup QB to take the reigns for a few weeks I'd much rather have a guy who was a multi-year starter on a Super Bowl team than one who started half a season for a one of the worst teams in the history of the NFL. Sure. We'd love to have a #2 who is as good as the #1 but not many teams have that luxury.

Grossman is clearly a better QB than Dan-O at this point.

That being said, please please PLEASE don't get hurt Matt!
If even a world class athlete in top physical condition like Kenechi Udeze finds it hard to deal with the disease and it's treatment, I can't imagine what other, "normal" people must go through.

Blessings to you and prayers for your sister. It's good that her memory will live in you and your writing.
Great article Steph. Your legal background provides great insight into a complex issue.

I am curious, though, why you think the addition of criminal charges (if that happens) would make the NFL's decision more difficult. It seems to me the addition of criminal charges in a rape case would make it a no brainer. The difficulty to me is whether they should suspend a player for a civil case with no corresponding criminal charges. Anyone can charge anybody anything in civil court so I can't see the NFL acting on that alone. Conversely, I don't see that they would have any choice if the case goes criminal.

I'm curious about your reasoning there. Maybe there's something I'm not seeing.
This guy cannot leave the NFL fast enough for me.
Millionaires and billionaires like this punk Jason Chayut need to stop claiming exploitation when the contracts they negotiate are in the millions. Dunta is not struggling to feed his family against an oppressor. Most people in this country don't earn in their lifetime what Dunta earns in a single year. I don't begrudge anybody trying to maximize their contract, but if Dunta doesn't publically distance himself from that statement I will lose a lot of respect for him. As you say. PLEASE exploit me with $10 million. I beg you, EXPLOIT me.
I am so done with this guy. He represents everything that is wrong with modern athletes. I don't buy for a second that he's more team oriented. You summed it up best in your closing, Steph: His mouth says that he wants to be more of a team guy while his actions show it's still all about him.
I think this is a good signing for one of the better kickers in the league. A clutch kicker is hard to find but is very valuable to a team hoping to take the next step. You would know better than I if Kris Brown is a "clutch kicker" but he seems to be pretty consistent. Kickers can tend to be pretty inconsistent year to year (lights out one year, run-of-the-mill the next). From my (until recently) outsiders perspective, Kris Brown seems to be one of those that bucks that trend. I, of course, could be wrong. :)
bears0492: "They got basically 2 good people. The others, (except for the center) probably won't ever contribute."

You can probably safely say that about every team's draft every year. Teams that get two or three starters out of a draft are happy. Most drafted players don't ever start on offense or defense, and many (especially in the later rounds) don't stay in the NFL very long.

Grading a draft before any of the players suit up in the NFL is an exercise in near futility as Steph and others have said but, if you are going to do it, you need to base it on a teams' needs and whether the team drafted players at, above, or below where the player was projected. By those measures, the Texans had a great draft. They addressed all their needs except backup RB and all the players were good values for where they were drafted. Splitting hairs between A+ and A- is pretty futile until we see the players suit up.

I like the Texans' draft. They got quality players with great athleticism and developed skills, most of whom were leaders of their teams. They didn't reach for anyone, and they got two players in Cushing and Barwin that have a chance to contribute immediately. That's a pratty darn good draft.

A.J.: "For what it's worth, if you stuck them in the AFC West, they would have probably won the division last year by a pretty good margin."

I completely agree. The Texans would have run away with the AFC West and the NFC West, and might have taken the NFC North. The Texans are a pretty good team in a great division. I have a feeling that they will break through and make it to the playoffs this season.

"I just moved into a new apartment and have been reading about all of the new power strips out there, especially the green ones. I was wondering if you had any suggestions about which "green "power strips are out there with decent joules ratings. And when I say green, I mean power strips that have the remotes or switches to turn off all electricity flowing to certain plugs and with at least 2 plugs that are always on. I was looking specifically at sub $50 because I will need two, but if that is not possible I could be convinced otherwise. Thanks!"
