Guys, this is fridge has a compartment which can:
- quick freeze stuff down to -17 deg celsius
- heat up stuff up to 60 deg celsius
- defrost steaks up to 250 grams and 2 cm thick and this infomercial seems to be rather heavy on stats.

If the metric system is just too weird for you try google converter, like so:

The FCC requirements do not prevent Apple from pre-announcing this product.

Apple has done it before. They have pre-announced computers you couldn't buy for months. In this case, they can do that easily because they are not selling any phones so if people hold out for the iPhone it will cut into _others_ sales only, not their own.

As for branding, Nokia has been pretty succsessful in preventing operators from branding their phones. Thankfully. Nokia can afford to do that because the operators need Nokia.
Apple iPhone can do the same. Also the operators know from the very beginning that they won't be able to slap their logo on that pristine white surface...

I will buy it as soon as it comes out, have been looking for a replacement for my trusty 6600 for a while now. The trend at the moment seems to be to specialize phones for camera/mp3/business uses which really doesnt suit me. I want to take good quality pictures, but I have a DSLR for serious photography, I want to be able to play some mp3s but I have an iPod for serious listening, and I want the business functions, all of them ;)
You gotta ask: Cui bono? In whos best interest is this? Clearly, it's in the best interest of DSL providers (NO SHARING, OH NO) and paid-for WiFi hotspots and probably telcos in general (free skype calls from everywhere - yikes!).

In theory, of course, there might be a problem. In practice, I have yet to see one.

In the meantime I will continue to give free access to anyone within WiFi range.
Those were not lawyers confiscating the gear, those were customs officials acting on behalf of the lawyers.

And if you know anything about customs officials, you don't want to mess with them. Those guys can also hold you without bail for extended periods of time. And they have rubber gloves.

More realistically, they can confiscate all your gear.

Anthony U: Apple just paid Creative $100M to be able to use their brilliant invention of organizing music by artist and album. In hierarchical folders!!! WOW. If only I had had that idea... but then, I guess I am not a genius like those geniuses at Creative. I wonder what they 'll patent next!? Disposable toilet paper?
Acer needs to get their design dept. into gear, Acer now look decidedly dated next to Sony, Asus, not to mention Apple.. even Toshiba has pretty decent design nowadays. Maybe Engadget could have a laptop design ranking.. not how good a laptop is but rather how well designed, the ranking is pretty obvious to me:

Apple (untouchable)
Sony
Asus, giving Sony a run for its money
Toshiba (?)
...
...
(bottom)
Acer
Dell
HP

I have an Acer TM 8204 which is fast and good and reliable, but not especially pretty. A carbon back does not a design make.

I am waiting for the Apple versions...
I used one in Tokyo - I must say it was very nice. Though I did have an odd moment where I was sitting there and the hot shower from below just would not stop. And... I couldn't really get up because then the whole bathroom would be sprayed. Japanese icons on the buttons were no help. I finally figured out that I had to push the shower button again to turn it off.

In general, I think Asia has toilets figured out much more than the west. After living here for a while I have gotten used to every toilet having a water spray, nothing fancy just a little shower you can use. After doing the business you get really clean. Much better than paper.

I mean, think about it - when you wash, do you take a shower or do you try to get yourself clean wiping yourself with lots of dry tissue? Imagine the latter would work very well? Same thing, really...

Western toilets suddenly seem barbaric.
I (heart) Logitech. Best mouses ever. I have a G5, very nice mouse if you skip the crap "gaming" software that came with it.

And these... I will love them if they work well with the standard windows drivers.

I need a cable, too - only way to go for laptops.

The only wireless mouse I would accept has Bluetooth 2.0, NO LAG, Li-Ion battery, tiny retractable USB cable which can recharge mouse / run mouse off the USB port.

There are some mouses out there which have some of these features, but none which have all. Logitech is usually out because they have a RF-USB plug and a cradle. Neither is acceptable for laptop use.

It's a *lot* easier to carry my G5 around, it has a very nice cable and does not require recharging and has zero lag.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"My father-in-law is heading back to school in the spring and wants a laptop for Christmas. The only catch is their budget is around $400 and he does not want a netbook. He's not very "tech savvy" at all and doesn't need a hoss of a machine (not that $400 could get you one). We would like to get it for him as soon as possible and would love some input."
