iPhone 3G: The Waiting Game: Part II: Redux {Engadget}

Jul 12th 2008 3:27PM Valley Fair is a mess too. I tried again this morning and the line was just as bad as yesterday. Was going to stand in it but it was roped off to new people at the time. this is madness!

I was going to hit the out of the way los gatos apple store but they were sold out of everything last night per the inventory tracker.

I hate standing in lines, and love having the fed ex guy do all the work for me.

Apple releases Leopard 10.5.4 update {Engadget}

Jun 30th 2008 11:45PM Word is still a bit funky with expose when going from another application back to a word window under 10.5.4. It still selects the last word window that was being used instead of the one you actually selected.

also, diablo 2 is still busted on nvidia GPUs due to the 256 color mode being removed from the nvidia drivers in 10.5.3 (and not fixed in 10.5.4).

Apple discussion thread:

Sure D2 is an 8+ year old game, but point releases shouldn't break / remove functionality.

for example, when they removed classic from 10.5 I knew that going in and weighed my options before upgrading. However, I didn't know that going from 10.5.2 to 10.5.3 would deprive me of my precious.

hopefully Apple will make it right soon.

iPhone 2.0 software securely erases user data {Engadget}

Jun 25th 2008 5:16PM Is Mobile ME going to support a secure remote wipe?

Also, does this imply that the remote wipe will take an hour to complete? or is it a non-secure quick and dirty version?

Psystar puffs out its chest, introduces off-license OS X servers {Engadget}

Jun 20th 2008 10:33PM do these things work with OS X software update?

also, since when do servers need support, the occasional rebuild, etc? oh right, usually during the times of serious crisis...

Samsung SC-HMX20C HD camcorder review {Engadget HD}

Jun 20th 2008 9:42PM The camera arrived today. I put it in the charger/base, turned it on, and the screen showed "USB Connecting" then "USB Connected," after which the Samsung drive appeared on my OS X 10.5 desktop.

The drive contains four root folders and two sub folders:

DCIM
+ 100PHOTO
MISC
MUSIC
VIDEO
+ 100VIDEO

Able to copy the pictures right from the 100PHOTO folder and video right from the 100VIDEO folder.

Samsung SC-HMX20C HD camcorder review {Engadget HD}

Jun 17th 2008 11:04PM Thanks for the reply Darren confirming that it mounts as an external drive on the Mac.

All I wanted was a way to rip the tasty h.264 files off that sucker without jumping through a bunch of BS hoops. Thanks!

Samsung SC-HMX20C HD camcorder review {Engadget HD}

Jun 17th 2008 4:54PM Damn, hit enter too early...

Your review says: "Upon connecting it to a Windows XP-based machine, it simply mounted as a drive and enabled us to pull the MPEG-4 clips over to our PC's hard drive."

Please let us know how it works with a Mac using the same process. I've seen mixed reviews as well (see link to official manual above and on other sites that reviewed this camera).

Nobody uses a Mac for video production or reviewing? I thought Engadget loved apple!

Samsung SC-HMX20C HD camcorder review {Engadget HD}

Jun 17th 2008 4:51PM How is the Mac support of that guy? are you able to pull video and pictures off of the camcorder over USB using a Mac?

Then I see page 128 of the user manual ( http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=us&CttFileID=1923481&CDCttType=UM&ModelType=C&ModelName=SC-HMX20C&VPath=UM/200805/20080514172437796_SC-HMX20C_ENG_IB_0403.pdf ), which states the following:

Symptom: The comptuer does not recognize your HD camcorder
Solution: You can not use the HD camcorder with a Macintosh

Jun 11th 2008 9:43PM Jubin,

When you plug the USB cable into your Mac, does it show up as an external drive just like any other USB drive?

Thanks!
