I agree that it is dumb to embed carrier specific EVDO mini cards, consumers lose, no choice. It costs Verizon and Sprint LOTS of money to do these deals, and I agree with the poster above, having accessible areas to install the mini PCI card of choice would be a much smarter option.
Cool. With a few more mods, you would have a complete portable StompBox!
There really are 2 national EVDO carriers in the US, Sprint & Verizon. AllTel is currently a regional/small player with EVDO coverage in just a few areas.

However, after the rumored buyout of T-Mobile, AllTel, may in fact become a larger player.

"I'm looking for a wireless trackpad to use with my older (2.5 or so years old) C2D MacBook that's perpetually docked to my home theater. Something sleek, thin, not too small, made of high quality materials. Ideally, it would natively support all of (Snow) Leopard's multitouch inputs, and even more ideally, it would have a charging dock / base. The only problem is that I'm not sure that such a thing even exists. Think you can throw me a bone?"
