Glad you picked up on Pogue's comment that the iPhone couldn't provide turn by turn directions because there was not room for a large antenna. A GPS antenna is tiny. Thats why even smaller phones have the capability. A surprising comment from someone that's supposed by smart about technology.
Do an extensive test of battery life under all sorts of conditions. Do it alongside a MacBook or Pro so we have a standard for comparison. These products have been well documented so we want to know if the Air is 150% or whatever in comparison.
Sharper Image is now owned by its creditors and some forgettable investment company. The founder, Richard Thailheimer was kicked out earlier this year. They don't have a clue about consumer electronics. These phones are junk like their iPod accessories with their blinking colored LEDs. They seem to be attracted to buying the crap that's on sale in the bazaars in Shenzhen and think their customers can't tell. I suggest they wander into an Apple store or phone store to see what really sells. Too bad, because Sharper Image used to introduce us to some of the latest technologies first.
Palm is a case study in inept management and a failure to innovate. It's story is like a soap opera with mergers and management fights, but having just one successful product since the Palm V, and that they had to acquire from Handspring. That product, introduced 4 years ago has been buggy and unreliable with little attempt to fix it. They rested on their laurels and never improved it in any meaningful way. The new Centro looks like an old Speak and Spell. Palm will make a great case study at Harvard.
The appearance looks like it's from the 70s, and the size from the 90s. What a pity that this company has done almost nothing in four years since the original Treo. What are they thinking? That you can coast along on a four year old design forever? Every new model has just been a slight variation of the original. While this may be the most drastic, it's really not much different exept it looks cheaper and is ugly. Get rid of the stripes on the front and the symetric shape. Take a leson from Motorola, Samsung, or most of the other competitors. It's a real letdown from the company that did the Palm V.
Consider the economics. 10 million buyers a year and assume 50% people buy a replacement battery in 1-2 years while the others buy another phone. Apple then takes in $100 per phone x 5 million = $500 million residual from the battery replacers alone.
In different parts of northern San Diego county, all heavily populated along I-5 and I-805. It was near impossible to connect either to get my email or access a Website. Had 5 bars and the E icon showing, which should suffice for getting a decent connection. I tried my AT&T BlackBerry (8800), which uses the same network and it worked fine.

Spoke to AT&T tech support who said as long as there's a strong signal and an E for EDGE it's not their responsibility and to try calling Apple. Spoke with Apple and after moving up three levels of support they said it was likely the AT&T network. Tried it with a second iPhone I managed to borrow and the same problem.
I don't get your relentless criticism and the lemmings that echo you with their postings. Just step back and think for a minute.

These are state of the art Bluetooth headphones, a twentieth the size of anything else, small enough to fit in your pocket, with fidelity unmatched by anything else, at a price less than comparable performing wired headsets from Shure and Etymotic themselves. And all you can do is keep trashing their looks! They are the same shape as an ipod, a rectangle with rounded corners. That's pretty contemporary to me. Would you prefer them to be round? Give these guys a break. It seems you just don't get it and are trying to be humorous. Frankly you come across as being more boorish.
I love my Etymotic 4s because they are so small, have great isolation and wonderful sound. If these match the perfomance of the 4s, then they are ground-breaking products. They are much smaller than the BT headphones everyone wears and simpler in design. And they are the first BT headphones tha thas a much higher noise reduction than the Bose. You guys are so negative that you can't recognize a real breakthrough product when you see it. All these complaints about a rectangle, what would you prefer, a disc? It's all about performance.

Franklin-Wireless and Sprint have just released an EVDO card that connects to any USB port. No card slot needed. I'm using it on a MacBook and it works just fine.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just moved into a new apartment and have been reading about all of the new power strips out there, especially the green ones. I was wondering if you had any suggestions about which "green "power strips are out there with decent joules ratings. And when I say green, I mean power strips that have the remotes or switches to turn off all electricity flowing to certain plugs and with at least 2 plugs that are always on. I was looking specifically at sub $50 because I will need two, but if that is not possible I could be convinced otherwise. Thanks!"
