Naughtier than Tiger Woods with a waitress at IHOP baby! Mmmm.... Stuffed French toast... Mmmm..
So they looked into mapping the controls and found out it would make the game too easy? I am not a marketing or sales guru but after you just spent all this money to make this game, only to see it flop what you need is a return on investment. Even if the game is too easy with a controller, give people the chance to purchase the game separately from the board and play with a controller. Throw in some DLC to extend the life a bit and win back some business. As it stands, and as many have already said, there is no way to "try out" the game in its current form because you have to have the board. Make it standalone and sell it for $30 this holiday season and swallow your pride. You took a gamble and it didn't pay off, now you can either let the ship sink totally and completely ruin a once storied franchise, or win some customers back and get back to giving the people what they want!

I for one logged a ton hours into all of the THPS games, even Project 8 was fun, but this was a bad idea, in a bad economy, to try and swoon people who already have a living room full of plastic add-ons for all of their games. I would seriously say, patch the controls, and sell it standalone this holiday season and people will at least give it a shot.
Thanks for the clarification Andrew, the way I read it made it seem like once it started, I could just set down the controller and watch things unfold. That makes me feel much better!
"However, the impatient among you will be bored long before the game's first (optional) action sequence, which occurs well over an hour into the story."

I in no way consider myself to be impatient, but over an hour before I do anything? So basically I watch movie before I get to "interact?" Talk about innovation!
Is this from the same company that made Hypercolor t-shirts?
The Optoma HD20 can be had for less than 1K and it's 1080p and throws a heck of an image.
Most of the cries of "not fair" deal with the HDD handicapping. Yes they are perfectly within their rights to banned modded consoles, I don't know if they can disable features that have nothing to do with Xbox Live or its services. If you got banned, you got banned but, as Ghen said, there are other ways to share media. So at the end of the day you lose out on installing games and online play. It may suck, but you would be foolish to think that Microsoft started this ban wave without making sure there could be no recourse.
Any plans for a console version? The only game my girlfriend liked on consoles was The Sims, she would play it for hours on end.
Mesh, and lots of it.
Why isn't base black again?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm heading to university next year, and I've purchased a MacBook. I'm also taking my four year old desktop, just in case I'm left with no computers when the MacBook is being repaired or whatnot. With only two USB ports on a MacBook, I want a Bluetooth mouse. Budget is about $100, and of course, it needs OS X support. Thanks for the help!"
