Windows 7 official pricing announced, limited pre-orders start tomorrow {Engadget}

Jun 25th 2009 11:33AM I have a feeling you're in the minority on that. I've converted six friends to Mac and they all LOVE the Mac. I only run Windows under boot camp to play games (which my iMac does pretty well with the 4850 Radeon in it).

Windows 7 official pricing announced, limited pre-orders start tomorrow {Engadget}

Jun 25th 2009 10:39AM Does anyone know if we would be able to install the upgrade over an existing install of RC1 (assuming we also had a valid Vista key, etc)?

I've switched to a Mac and run Windows 7 x64 RC1 under Boot Camp. I have a decommissioned OEM PC that has a valid Vista 32 license. Which version of Windows 7 do I need and am I going to have to reinstall?

Thanks!

Jun 16th 2009 2:09PM 3D is so fucking annoying for movies I can't even contemplate how much suck it would bring to games. Just die already like you did in the 80's 3D!!

SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone coming shortly: $29.99, no 3G support {Engadget}

May 12th 2009 3:57PM As soon as Sling found out that the App would not be approved for the 3G network they simply should have made it FREE for download in the hopes that it would sell more Slingboxes.

Not doing so is just plain stupid or maybe at best a greedy grab for some app store cash.

And AT&T picking on iPhone users and their unlimited data plan is ridiculous. Orb is allowed to stream over 3G and Sling players are available for Blackberry and Winmo devices.

AT&T is setting a dangerous precedent here for iPhone application support. Your app will only be approved based on the load it will put on the AT&T network.

Jerkoffs.

How would you change HP's MediaSmart Server ex485 / ex487? {Engadget}

Apr 11th 2009 8:31PM The EX485 is my second WHS product, the first one was a home brew that I put together at a pretty reasonable price. The primary reason that I bought the EX485 is the Time Machine functionality for Mac computers in the home. Now that I have a Mac, I wanted a painless way to back them up over the network without having to connect stupid USB drives to the Mac.

The backups themselves to the EX485 are painless, but system recovery is anything but. As HP currently supports this product with Mac computers, recovery is a pain in the ass.

You must reload Leopard, reload the Mac client for the WHS, reconnect to your Time Machine backups, and then manually restore your user/application/documents folders.

This is a really lame recovery system. While I understand and appreciate that Leopard does not support full system recovery over the network, it can be done with non SMBFS shares by mounting them 1st in the terminal and then restoring them.

At a minimum, HP should have provided a utility that could copy the contents of the "Mac" backup share to an external USB drive, which it would format with the right Mac formatting. This drive could then be directly connected to the Mac in question and a painless recovery would ensue.

I can only hope that Apple pulls their heads out and starts supporting remote network Time Machine recovery, especially with WHS backup and recovery working so well... WHS is truly the best product to come out of MS in many a moon.

Apr 11th 2009 8:27PM It does back up Macs via Time Machine, where the hell have you been?
