Panasonic's Blu-ray SC-BT100 HTIB system gets reviewed {Engadget HD}
Aug 20th 2008 11:35AM I stopped reading at this point:
"The system blasts out a healthy 1000W of audio power..."
This is obviously not a credible review, but a spec regurgitation. Truthfully, the pictures are stock images, and he doesn't say much - did he even review it, or just write a review based on the specs!?
Oh, and the Brits get scr3wed. The US version of this system DOES come with one wireless module and two rear speakers.

Aug 20th 2008 11:28AM The subwoofer is the same one Panasonic uses on its $300 HTIB (6.5" woofer with a 'customer facing' 10" passive radiator). All speakers are plugged into and powered by the receiver/BD unit.
For a HTIB, it sounds OK, but for $1000 USD, you could buy a $400 BD player or PS3, and have $600 left over for a receiver and speakers (for example, one of the Onkyo or Yamaha HTIB systems with a REAL receiver, powered sub, and decent speakers).
Not a good value.
Insignia NS-BRDVD Blu-ray deck gets reviewed -- it's no PS3 {Engadget HD}
Aug 19th 2008 11:02PM My point was hooking it up to a cheap 42" house brand LCD, not sure you would see the difference. From a business point of view, people just want cheap, and this unit does just that.
Not saying its good or its the one I would have, but cheap sells.

Aug 19th 2008 7:52PM Realize this thing will probably be $199 for Thanksgiving, and if you are pairing it with a 'matching' Insignia television, it would probably be just fine.
Charter ruffling feathers in Reno, NV / McDowell, NC {Engadget HD}
Aug 18th 2008 1:15AM I live in Reno and sell home theater gear.
I'll keep it short and sweet - it is a miracle that Charter is still around. Nobody likes them...except for DISH and DirecTV because its not hard to convince people to ditch cable for Satellite.
Horrible company.

Denon's AVR-5308CI receiver reviewed, price and value high {Engadget HD}
Aug 13th 2008 12:49AM Lets be honest, you will buy this receiver to complement your THX-certified Atlantic Technology package and go with your $1000 Denon BD player and 1080p projo. This is not a unit for some 13 year old punk responding to blogs (not accusing you guys, you are making valid points, but realize this unit is designed for people who don't mind paying a lot more for a little more).
I have sold a few of these, and the buyers are usually 30-50, know this hobby well, and have very good jobs (or have a lot of money working hard in their name, those lucky SOB's). They will use the piss out of this thing for 5 years and then get whatever comes along next.
