"The iPhone seems like it should be the perfect companion for the international traveler."

No. The perfect companion would be a factory unlocked phone, that doesn't need a data plan to do GPS navigation :)

Seriosuly now, T-Mobile US doesn't have data for PAYG plans (only for the pay-by-day Sideckick plan). I learnt this *after* getting a T-Mo SIM, sigh. At least roaming in Canada is not stupidly expensive, so I only need one SIM for the two countries.
Why would anyone have to consult Apple? There were phones with proximity sensors, accelerometers and ambient light sensors before the iPhone.
@Jeremy

Dude, seriously. You can't say that Apple hosts every single podcast (or any for that matter - is there an official Apple podcast?) and not include a sarcasm alert. People may think you have no idea what you're talking about.

@jeremy
You should use a sarcasm alert or something. People may think you're serious :-)
Grab can also save a screenshot to the clipboard, with Cmd-Ctrl-Shift-3 (or 4).
Podcasts no longer show up when browsing music by artist!!! About time :D
Actually it is the same thing. The RS had a fixed mirror that split the light. And so did the Canon Pellix from 1965 (http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/pellix/index.htm)
First the $20 fiasco, then this.

I know what my next MP3 player is *not* going to be :)
Movino does the same thing as Mobiola's Webcam but under OS X. And it's free.

You can use any cell phone as a bluetooth webcam on OS X, using Movino. They have a version for S60 phones and one for phones that support J2ME.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm pretty much a complete noob when it comes to camera stuff. My wife loves to take pictures, though. So much so that she literally wore out her first point and shoot camera, and the Kodak Z712 I bought for her less than two years ago is starting to act up as well. To compound the matter, we are expecting our first born sometime next year. I fear the Kodak just isn't going to cut it any longer. What would be the best starter DSLR to get? She hates missing photo opportunities due to camera 'lag' so speed would definitely be at the top of the list. Photo quality and features would be next. Price should be no more than $800. I'm not interested in video capabilities."
