I think it will be called "Sirius XM"

That way, when they get into trouble for corporate malfeasance, they can just default to one or the other - a la "MCI Worldcom"
Phobox - go to a sony style store and play with one, then tell me its even remotely comparable to a ppc for ebooks.

I've owned a lot of ebook devices (franklin, franklin, etc...). I currently used a ppc because I had it with me, but now I'm a crackberry user so I don't have that anymore.

Anyway, it's not going to appeal to everyone - that's for sure. But some of us are hardcore readers - we like to have several books with us at a time - not to mention need to carry multiple reference documents, etc...

My only hold back would be content availability, I'll wait for the major rollout to see what people say...

As for the light wedge, I think it'd still work - regardless of the bezel, but until I get my hands on one I won't know for sure. Maybe they'll let me test it out at sonystyle...
Re: the whole backlight issue

I think what they could do though is something along the lines of lightwedge. LED light across the plexiglass cover - integrate it into the device.

But until they do, I throw it out there that if reading in the dark is so important to you, can always get a lightwedge at B&N for $2-30 and put it on top of your ereader...
I want to second guilt+1. I've been playing with the sony ereader at sony style stores for quite a while now. The only reason I don't own one is I can't get to the store fast enough when they come in...
This post made me start searching again - turns out estarling disappeared off the scene because they had a supplier problem with the lcd panel. They say they'll be relaunching the product for this xmass! Very excited:

Video is sweet, but flickr rss is truly the killer app. I like the idea of having a finished product rather than a do it yourself project. I can't imagine why eStarling stopped selling. I'll hold out for that wifi enabled version (non-ceiva), maybe next christmas...
Yeah, my freezer defrosts too, you just take it out and stick it on top, takes a few hours...
I'm not a parent, but I've been thinking about this issue recently. I guess because more and more dads are bringing their kids into the bathroom with them.

If your kid is big enough, they can wait by the door or sink, no problem. But the really little ones, what can you do? I've heard dads use the handicap toilets and have their kid in the stall with them as it is. I've even heard the dreaded "taco bell" issue, poor dad and son - dad was making an awful stink and the son was complaining about how bad it was. But what do you do if you're not with your wife??

This sounds doable, you could hang the kid on the othe side of the door as far as I'm concerned, have him/her facing the sinks...
itunes is close enough to drm-free as far as I'm concerned. download-burn to cd-rip to mp3. if you want a whole album's worth, buy the album and convert it.

While I'd love drm free downloads (and would pay for them), I don't see it happening. The industry's too afraid of what happened with napster - too easy to abuse.

I wouldn't mind seeing a "library" feature added where I could "loan" my drm music to a friend - with an expiration date (sort of like what libraries do with playsforsure). When the date expires, it pops back in my library for me to listen to or loan out again...
I second Jjeff's comments - this is small claims court stuff, no legal fees aside from the filing fee - usually $35.

There is a principle here - you borrow something, you're responsible for it until you return it to the owner. It isn't returned until she actually has receipt of it, so its her friends responsibility.

I'm amazed at how many people are pissed at the girl who filed the suit! The blame goes on the other girl (and her parents) for not owning up to the responsibility and paying for it.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"For a long time I have been searching for a portable device where I can store all of my CDs in MP3 format and stream the songs wirelessly to my HiFi system. The portable device must I've tried FM transmitters, they all suck. I don't want a docking station. Any help? Thanks!" have a display so that I easily can scroll through the playlists (I don't want to use a TV or monitor). I suppose that there must also be a second device that is connected to the HiFi system that would receive the wireless streams from the portable device.
