as much as moblin is a cool piece of kit, I can't see myself buying into the platform as there won't be any apps for it.

As it is, high profile OSs like Ubuntu and Android are struggling to get apps ported, developed there compared to say iPhone. I have previoulsy bought into the hype of the N800 and have been pretty much stuck with the stock apps bar one or two real gems, but that's it.

I think the market is fragmented enough as it is. There aren't enough developer for all those different platforms.

So yay for netbooks, but Asus shoudl really port over Android et Ubuntu netbook, and not Moblin/maemo etc.
The 310XT is great but why no sports watch function? I'd be all over the 405cx if it where waterproof for triathlons, or the 310XT if it had a sports watch function.
Guess I'll go for Suunto T6c instead with hrm and either footpod or gps module.
I have a N800 and I won't be fooled again buying into underpowered over promissing platform.
Nokia is goign to have a very hard time competng for my wallet with netbooks priced in the same range (I assume their new Tablet will be around $300 when it comes out).
N800 is OK hardware wise but of course it is let down by an appaling browser, no use of the current 3d chipset (and hence subpar video playback performance). Every piece of software on the platform is meh usually. I want to buy something with Atom inside so I can run x86 software easily.
OTherwise, Nokia should just give up and join the android bandwagon. Developpers wont't be flocking to the NIT anymore now that iPhone and Android are competing as well.
Thanks for trying Nokia.
How do you get on about connecting your iPod touch or wifi only other devices to your 3G modem? How do you share this 3G connection with other people in your house? How do you use your bluetooth connection from 100 feet away?
I swore to myself never to by a S60 OS phone again and no matter how good this hardware is, I won't go back.
The S60 is instable and a crap OS. Moreover the software community for this is just as ridiculous as the software community for Blackberry with it's "$4.99" themes, and "$19.99" to do lists applications.

The iPhone has really set a nice precedent for cheap and very diverse applications. I thin android will do just as good.

So Nokia, please be as smart as Sony Ericsson and bin the S60 like SE did for the UIQ Symbian OS and get on the Android bandwagon.

Your hardware is great Nokia, just leave the software to people who know what they are doing.

You do realize that those shares you bought had zero impact for GM's income statement or balance sheet?
you bought the shares from somebody else. The only relationship you have to GM is for dividend payments.

GM got funding through share or rights issue only at the first time of sale. Once they are on the secondary market they have no financing purpose to GM.

If you wanted to help GM you should have bought GM bonds.
The Nikon P6000 has almost feature to feature the specs of this camera. You may also liek the Panasonic Lumix LX3 but fromwhat I've read the image quality is so-so despite amazing lens (f2 and 24mm).

I am personally thinking about the G10 although since this would be my holiday camera I would be quite interestd in the GPS feature of the p6000 should it have comparable image quality. At the moment there aren't any sample pictures for either camera.

I am underwhelmd by this thing. My Slingbox works fine and I can watch TV anywhere outside my home.

For the same price you can get a mac mini under your tv which will do any of this. (yes including "screen casting" from another PC in your house running VLC screen capture)

$500 is just plain dumb. Either they are making too fat of a margin either the component prices are just too high and selling this to the public just doesn't make economic sense.

Watch out for $99 promotion at Woot in 6 months for this deice
Damn I was hoping for more aggressive pricing from Dell on this. It's only marginally better (bigger hd and better Graphics) than a Mac Mini similarly priced. The Mac mini of course can run OS X without any effort while this may need some hacking.
If only they offered it straight with Ubuntu instead to shave another $50 off.

Does anybody know/think that the hardware on this will work with Ubuntu with no further hacks needed? ANy idea of the noise on this machine?

I love the Mac mini but I am trying to get away from Apple (al lmy machines are laptop) as I believe they try to enforce a little too much control on what I can and cannot do.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I am looking for a 12- or 13-inch ultraportable that can also play modern games at a reasonable level, for less than $1,000. I know the brainiacs out there can help me out. Love the site, thanks!"
