that's silly... It doesn't take hardly any longer to hand the employee a couple bills as opposed to swiping a card, especially after processing and signing. And of course doing something outrageous would take outrageously longer....
There is a lot of misinformation out there. My wife currently has a first generation iPhone with no data plan. Pre 3.0 you were able to just disable EDGE without a problem using SBSettings. Once we upgraded to 3.0 and got a huge bill we just called, got them to take the extra charges off (since we've been with ATT for years) and asked them to disable the data plan. No problem. Of course, it is jailbroken and unlocked on the ATT network. The only pain is upgrading her but if the mother-in-law just wants a phone with an iPod why would she ever really need to update?
I just don't get the point of augmented reality apps... Alright, it's a neat idea, but I don't understand who is ever going to use this? It's not practical! If I want to get somewhere I need specific directions, not a general direction in which to go. So in the end, if I want to go to Subway, I'll just pull up google maps or tom tom.
What warranty are you giving up!? Just restore your phone if it ever needs to be repaired. I've had an iPhone since day 1 and never once had a problem getting it serviced, I just make sure I restore my phone to non-jailbroken status before i take/send it in.
No, it won't take that much more battery. When you lock the screen the system does not "shut down touch recognition". Where did you get that information? When the phone is locked you still have to "slide to unlock".

This will obviously use up some extra battery, but it shouldn't be that noticeable unless the application is a resource hog. When I use intelliscreen I don't realize any battery differences.
I'm like you two, it would drive me nuts if i wasn't able to look down at my iphone and see my emails, but there are many apps now that take care of that. (jailbroken of course) Intelliscreen being the most well know, but lockscreen info being another. Check out modmyi.com or google for others.
I'd like to win plz, kthx
I'd like to win this.
I'd absolutely love one of these
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a pair of quality headphones that aren't seemingly made of glass. I'm an avid BMXer which causes me to frequently bash on any type of technology that joins me for my daily riding. I've been through the higher quality headsets in the Skullcandy line as these are supposed to be built for "abuse," which is laughable. I cant wear earbuds or canal buds, as my large ears seem to have a repelling property upon anything that sits in them. Wired or Bluetooth doesn't really matter, but I need something that can hold up to taking a few hits every now and again. I'm trying to keep 'em under $150. Thanks!"
