I've gotten things to work fine on Vista, though there was a certain iPod shuffle that I could not sync with the iTunes library on Vista RC1.
I've got a device on which these videos would play (A Zen Vision), but I'll have to stay away from this service. I purchased a video online once with the same set of restrictions for $10 just to experiment with it. Later I needed to install Windows 2003 on my machine (it had XP) and that's when I found there was no way to back the movie up. If you ever reinstall windows you will loose this content.

As for DVD ripping, if we ignore for a moment the fact that it's illegal it's not a sure fire way to get the content off of the DVDs. Some software has had varrying success with DVDs that use additional protection technologies.
I'm not using an iPod but I do have a video capable PMP. I never thought about my video habits until I read this article, but I only use it to play video when I am travelling via plane and want to catch up on my TV shows, which isn't that often.
You ***CAN*** download and install the zune software without purchasing a Zune

http://www.zune.net/en-us/meetzune/software.htm

Note: It does not [yet] work on anything other than Windows XP. If you have Vista or Windows 2003 Server it will not work.
I can understand Adobe's decision. If nothing else the Endian issue creates great challenges. The G5 series of chips actually dropped some of the functionality for dealing with little-Endian numbers that the G4 had and that caused significant delays in the release of VirtualPC for Mac when the G5 was released.
To Kiantech in post #1, the Intel Pentium 4 Extreme edition supported 64 bit operations as do the Core 2 extreme processors.

See http://www.intel.com/technology/64bitextensions/ for more details.
It now takes much longer for my xbox to boot up.
More than one I saw a question on when a product will be available for windows xp to run Mac OS X. While technically there exists programs with which some one could do this I don't think a complete packaged solution will ever be released [commercially]. Apple would surely bring down their hammer of justice on any entity trying to produce such a thing. If you want an example do a google search on Maxxuss and how apple reacted to his postings of how to run OSX natively on a PC. Apple sent out nice little legal letters that resulted in several sites being offline for a few days while all links to such information were removed...

To #2, virtual machines are not immune to viruses. Part of full emulation is also being vulnerable to them.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a pair of quality headphones that aren't seemingly made of glass. I'm an avid BMXer which causes me to frequently bash on any type of technology that joins me for my daily riding. I've been through the higher quality headsets in the Skullcandy line as these are supposed to be built for "abuse," which is laughable. I cant wear earbuds or canal buds, as my large ears seem to have a repelling property upon anything that sits in them. Wired or Bluetooth doesn't really matter, but I need something that can hold up to taking a few hits every now and again. I'm trying to keep 'em under $150. Thanks!"
