I can honestly not believe the arguments you are making. The 2nd Ammendment should be observed because honest law-abiding citizens must be able to protect themselves? And then, that most gun crimes are committed by individuals who steal them from those honest citizens who have them to protect themselves?
Great - so they're not going out and finding assault rifles, they're getting guns during petty thefts. Do you not see your flaw in logic? What if these honest citizens did not have these guns in their closets to begin with? Those thieves who broke in to grab a PS3 would now be without easy access to a firearm.
Self-protection? Besides the obvious argument that you could that by consciously avoiding situations that might warrant the need of a gun for protection, why not stop to think that there might not be an absolutely crystalline distinction between an "honest citizen" and a "dishonest citizen". Is it unimaginable to conceive that one might cross this barrier, or even remain somewhere in the middle, having previously committed no violent crimes, where the easy access of a gun now places lives in jeapordy given the right circumstances? It shouldn't be, because it happens in the States all the time.
Yes, SOME criminals will ALWAYS have guns. Why not mitigate the factors that allow this to happen?
