seeing if my 4 year old can figure it out
I kinda like this concept. The "suggest a recipe for all of my random rotting food" feature is definitely, um, cool.
Ok. Many of you want to buy old laptops and convert them. I get that.

For those of use that don't mind shelling out a few bucks for something that is easy and idiot proof, this seems pretty cool. I like the automatic phone dial-up feature. I'm pretty sure my Dad can figure out how to plug it in to a phone jack.

It sounds like people that have actually used the Ceiva service like it. Is that accurate?

FYI, I called Ceiva and these newest models aren't shipping yet. They are accepting orders and expect to ship within 5-7 business days but will not "guarantee" that they will be delivered pre-Christmas. Somebody, somewhere at Ceiva messed up pretty badly on the timing on this thing. Whoops.
Brandon, so you mean if you decide at some point down the road that you want to buy an mp3 player that isn't made by Apple all you will have to do in order to transfer your iTunes purchased songs to your non-Apple mp3 player is first burn them all to CD then re-rip them to remove the DRM? How convenient.

If you're happy with the idea that Apple does everything in its power to permanently lock iTunes Music Store customers into buying Apple hardware for the rest of their lives, that's fine by me. But I have to confess I don't understand it.

I own an iPod. I think it's the easiest to use, best looking player out there. I have nothing against iPod. I just don't understand why Apple gets a free pass on its transparently greedy approach to DRM.

The real rip-off would be if Univeral tried to sell you CDs that would only play on CD players manufactured by Universal.

Oh . . . Wait. Apple does that with iTunes.
Can I ask why anyone cares about this? Seems a bit of a reach by Universal but, really, who cares? It's not like Apple isn't making heaps and heaps of cash off of iPods. Why does anyone care how they slice up that profit.

Are there honestly still people out there that think Apple is some hip, benevolent company out to do good for the trendy of the world?
I can live with 1 HDMI input. In about 6 months, you'll be able to get a very good AV Receiver for around $350 that'll do HDMI switching -- problem solved.
Google "Vizio P42 Reviews" and you'll find a number of very good reviews of the current model (which this one replaces). Basically they all say it's awesome with Hi Def content and DVDs, so-so with standard def tv and a fantastic bargain (at prices that were then between $1400-2000 for the P42). In general, I have heard good things about Vizio plasma.

I think this just jumped onto my shopping list -- even if it means going to Costco on Black Friday.
Vizio has gotten pretty good reviews from people who claim to know what they're talking about. I wouldn't write these guys off without checking it out. I'm pretty sure there are only a limited number of manufacturers that make all the panels anyway.

The price is pretty darned amazing. I was going to get a 32 inch Samsung LCD for around $1200 but this looks pretty tempting. 10,000:1 contrast should make for a very nice picture.

Nice design, too, IMHO
The specs on this thing are pretty sweet. Screen resolution and Burr-Brown DACS are very nice, as is the codec support.

You could absolutely fit a few movies on a 4gb card.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"What is the best wireless surround sound speaker solution? I have a home theater where running wires is just not feasible. I have my own speakers, so I don't want a system that has speakers with integrated wireless. I've done a far amount of research and have only come across a few companies that even offer a reasonable solution: KEF, Kenwood and Rocketfish. Is there anything else out there? What do you recommend? Thank you!"
