I think this is a good idea but as other said, there is a few negatives about it.

The thing I like is the fact that I could slow down if I know the light is changing instead of using brakes. Think coming up to a light knowing there is 3 seconds left you are likely to gradually slow down instead of slam the brakes on so you can keep rolling.

I have the timing down on some of the lights in my city so I can time how long I have before the light changes. This saves me some gas and some brake wear and tear.

Your assumption about corporate entities is correct.

The State of Ohio's default browser is IE6. I assume other state's default to whatever is default on the OS. Unfortunately I can see that trend continuing with budgets hurting nationwide and IT support being cut. Our agency has not had a full time IT person in about 2 years.

Interestingly, I downloaded Opera to my desktop as a security and ease of use measure and I got reamed royally for doing it. Same with using any utilities other than what was given to me (ie - defrag, spyware, etc).

I'm so po' I can't afford a staycation!

I'm also so po' that I am building a home theater with leftover drywall pieces..woot!
Tech No-No #23938:
People replying to other people on a blog/news story page when the post is not directly pointed at them.

(See above poster)
There was one "mean" post and it was towards someone else's advice Teresa. So save yourself some stress and take the good advice over the bad.

Which leads me to..

Tech No-No #89234:
Take everything you read on the internet with a grain of salt. People lie, so check the information you get. People are mean, so do not take everything personally. People attack others because they are weak in person. People cannot read emotion unless it is part of the text.

CAPS LOCK TYPING:
*This is not directed at anybody here* but I think the CAPS issue is more a generational "PC" rule.

Another example: I like to wear hats (baseball, beanies, etc) and wear them outside AND inside. I notice many people that are of older generations either give me a dirty look or verbally attack me to take my hat off when I come inside. To me, I am not disrespecting anybody by keeping my head warm in the winter and I truthfully forget I am wearing a hat sometimes. But I respect their opinion and take my hat off when they say it or I remember.

I wish others would share the same respect when it comes to things like the CAPS LOCK thing, cell phone etiquette, and even how loud people type.
Well..just tried this on my everyday computer (iBook G4) and it did not work to black out the screen. Actually nothing happened for me.

..but in actuality (in response to someone's post that it does not effect prices), it DOES cause price increases.

Just ask any diner that orders flour in bulk amounts. In the last 8 months flour prices have tripled in price BECAUSE OF more farmers growing corn crop to meet the "demand" for the most popular version of ethanol.
Well...at least in Ohio he has to pay for that stupid license plater per year. It's an extra ~$40 per year over the typical rates just to have a customized plate.

...at least he doesn't have a sticker that says "Lowriders are for boys who can't get it up"... :-P
I don't know about their amps...but if you know anything about car audio, you know Rainbow is one of the highest regarded speaker makers.

It may be a goofy name..but if the amp is as high quality as their speaks, this would be a nice amp. The power specs don't always tell the whole truth. Many times a company will under rate their products. Rainbow is know as a SQ speaker company so I'd assume that these amps are geared toward the SQ enthusiast not the SPL.
Ah..gotta love bureaucracy and politics at its finest!

I live in a small run down industrial town in central Ohio. There are magically 3 ethanol plants opening up in the next year here. Most the total of the three places are going to hire? 60 people.

So...the three owners of these places will have padded pockets and hire people at $9 hour at MOST.

We really need to get the beneficial alternative fuel research going...not this act of pulling wool over the uninformeds eyes. I love how they forget to mention that more resources are used in creating ethanol than it would be to make straight gasoline.
I guess I am in the same boat. I am a Scion owner and enthusiast. I haven't even spent the time to look at or read any of the speculation about a Scion pickup.

Few things come to mind...

1. I used to really dig the mini-truck scene. I even got Mini Truckin' the magazine. I'm all about use less when you can. So maybe that is one reason I have always had a soft spot for mini-trucks. I just think people need to down size their vehicles. Nobody needs a F-350 turbo diesel just to haul a load of mulch once a year.

2. I agree that (especially after seeing the new Scion xD and 2nd gen xB) that Scion will go with something more catchy and cliquey (if thats a word!). I had hope that Scion would do one "sporty" car, one "gas sipper", and one sort of in between vehicle. Well..they threw that completely out the window. So I can see a pickup where it would have a bunch of techy features for more eye appeal than real world use. ..which is sad. I imagine there are some sane people that would rather get a mini-truck that could do the dirt hauling and trailer pulling over a giganto $20k+ truck.

I think that if Toyo stepped up and put a new, fresh, and usable mini-truck on the market it would sell like hot cakes. Again..it has to be a good value, something people want to look at, and able to do the work that people normally might use a truck for.

Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a wireless trackpad to use with my older (2.5 or so years old) C2D MacBook that's perpetually docked to my home theater. Something sleek, thin, not too small, made of high quality materials. Ideally, it would natively support all of (Snow) Leopard's multitouch inputs, and even more ideally, it would have a charging dock / base. The only problem is that I'm not sure that such a thing even exists. Think you can throw me a bone?"
