In my opinion Ps3's sucess rides on ONE thing

Blu-ray

but heres how i see them failing EITHER WAY

possibility 1 - Blu ray overtakes HD dvd and is the sucessor, it becomes the next dvd player.

why they will fail: Though this may not mean failure forever ALOT of people will buy a PS3 for the same reason they bought a PS2 - cheap blu ray player and in ps2's case a cheap Dvd player.

When dvds first came out, Ps2 was the cheapest player on the market
as is Ps3

But Ps2 was a huge sucess so im shure ur wondering what i mean. WEll sony is already way deep in the dark end of the financial situation So there counting on PS3 to save them. But wait whats this? Ps3 is COSTING them money? well im shure they plan on making it back with games
but if Ps3 sells more consoles then games Sony is screwed

possibility 2 - Blu ray is a failure as UMD format was

PS3 may sell alot at release BUT will not sell close to as well as 360 is and as wii will because no one is watching or using blu ray discs, they are too expensive for a normal unit and not many peoples tv support the quality.

PS3 will sell very very well
because of the price

because its 400 dollars cheaper than a blur ray player
but i can gurentee they will still lose money
and people wont buy the PS3 for games which is where sony planned to make money back

they will buy it for blu ray

= sony will get owned

and yea who cares about them ripping off nintendo

and because there are STANDARD controls too all developers will be lazy and use conventional controls

I own a xbox 360
but im not a fanboy ( or i dont consider myself one )
and i plan to buy a PS3

Now if by some act of God The PS3 are priced at the 400 that the rumor is at then think about this
Would you buy a 400 dollar blu ray player ( PS3) or a 1000 dollar player ( plain old blu ray player)?
Im pretty shure everyone will buy the PS3's
but because the PS3's are so marked down to sell so the company makes money off games they dont realize soo many people will just buy one for playing blu ray movies!


But then If the PS3 is priuced higher then There is:
-No gurentee that the PS3 will sell alot
-No promise of The Blu ray format winning
-A GREATER chance of sony not losing money ( imo )

Therefore the PS3 cannot be priced at 400 dollars and last time i checked someone beside the average joe ( myself) would of figured this out at Sony HQ.

basically what im saying is
Sony either wins the format war of the console war
or maybe neither

Look no offense but i don't think that theatres will be die for a number of reasons

1. Not everyone likes the idea of going to a movie in your house. Im my opnion i think that half the fun of going to the movies is well, GOING to the movies. Here is where i think technology starts to kill our social life. Maybe its just me but i don't think everyone would go for it.

2. not everyone has a big screen tv ( as sad as it is). Tell me that the theatre isnt sweet especially if you go to a real big one that WONT have sound going throought the walls. ( i.e. famous players )

3. Pirating, Now i know that already happens but then it would be sooo easy to make copies. I mean very few people havce the guts to go and film the freaking movie with a camera in a theatre but if you were to have it so accesible i think pirating would just get worse.
