Video: Android SDK v0.9 hits the internet looking almost ready for primetime {Engadget}

Aug 18th 2008 7:52PM I would like it if one post about Android didn't mention anything about a phone. Too many users think this is a phone, and not a platform which will run on many phones. If a manufacturer wants to compete with the iPhone, then they can make the phone, tweak the software and sell it. If a manufacturer wants to create a super cheap easy to use phone, then they just build the hardware, tweak the software, and sell it. Android just makes it easier for the manufacturers to add/remove features and bring all their hardware/software pieces together in a clean fashion, without having to support many pieces of proprietary software. This is not a slam on Engadget, just that some of the readers don't know what Android actually is....

Microsoft launching SideWinder X6 keyboard this fall? {Engadget}

Jul 19th 2008 2:14AM I love my Sidewinder Mouse (switched from the g7) and will be trying this keyboard out as soon as it launches (if it does, I am assuming it exists) to replace my Microsoft Pro 4000. Definately a good looking piece of kit and hopefully built like the mouse. Now I just have to wait for the Sidewinder X360 controllers (fans, led's, macro, who knows!)

Microsoft giving the Xbox 360 a totally new Dashboard {Engadget}

Jul 14th 2008 7:34PM I don't think they will do something to decrease the usability of the 360 interface, look at the MCE interface, where the XBox gets a lot of its design queues. I think if anything this will improve the usability and provide more streamlined access to things, like playing games, or streaming your media, or connecting to a media center.

Android-based E28 touchscreen phone gets demoed on video {Engadget}

Feb 12th 2008 3:59PM Androids competition is every mobile OS on the market, from small flip phones and candy bars to smartphones. It is just about unification of standards, so yes it will "compete" with OS X on the iPhone, but it is up to the manufacturer to decide what device they want to put it on (prada anyone?).

I don't know what you are smoking, but the OS will be completely open source when it's released, meaning you can add or remove features you want or don't want. There will be no ads pushed to your device, you will merely be more likely to run web based apps and therefore become an impression. You need to not be so paranoid about this project. The fact that they will be using unified API's for every device the OS will mean more homebrew apps and more ways to access your digital information.

Sizing it up: MacBook Air vs. the rest {Engadget}

Jan 15th 2008 1:49PM Actually not the worlds thinnest. the title for that still lies with the Sony x505 which is .75 inches at the thickest, .01 inches thinner than the MacBook Air. And unless that keyboard has some really cushy stuff underneath it, it will type just like the x505, which felt like you were typing directly on the table (cool feeling, just not the most comfortable).

Merry Christmas: win two round trip tickets on JetBlue + noise canceling headphones {Engadget}

Dec 26th 2007 4:54AM I could really use a vacation, but I'm sure the person who wins will be very excited, maybe it will be me!!!
