That was my understanding too...the iPhone 3Gs is ready to go with the faster network, right?

The TomTom cradle paired with the future free Google nav app seems like the way to go."

I think you are right, Mystic. Great software (and free) with an enhanced GPS chip, charging, bluetooth speaker phone, and a direct connect (3.5mm) to your stereo. After awhile this will be cheaper than $120, too.
The way I see it is that the TomTom dock with the improved NAV chipset, bluetooth speakerphone, and charging station is a great addition or we would not all be so upset at the price. Clearly, if the price were reasonable we'd all probably jump on board and get one. That said, I am using the Navigon app as it is a much better navigation tool than the TomTom app, and I tried both before I purchased. I'm going to try and be a little patient here as I'm guessing Navigon will out do them on the cradle too in very short order. I live in LA and I have to say I've absolutely no issues moving all around the city and that includes up and down all the canyon roads.
I'd be very thrilled to get the chance to explore the skies!
Stay away from all my chargers for a longer time...very cool!!
Yeah, I'm out of this deal too at that price. I just recently pushed the button on Navigon and it is fabulous!! I'm have had no issues with a GPS signal and I travel through the canyons in Los Angeles. It works flawlessly without a cradle.
I want to know how the quality is in the car too as a speakerphone. Is the Mic any good? Can people on the other end hear you or is there a lot of distortion? Etc....
Exactly!!! For $0.99, I downloaded it and its great to just be able to inch in a bit when you are taking a photo that would otherwise be so small in the frame. Yes, I realize you can take a shot then stretch it closer when you preview it, but this app seems to work better than that.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"For a long time I have been searching for a portable device where I can store all of my CDs in MP3 format and stream the songs wirelessly to my HiFi system. The portable device must I've tried FM transmitters, they all suck. I don't want a docking station. Any help? Thanks!" have a display so that I easily can scroll through the playlists (I don't want to use a TV or monitor). I suppose that there must also be a second device that is connected to the HiFi system that would receive the wireless streams from the portable device.
