I've programmed PHP classes and other various PHP applications for internal use at our company. But by no means is it how I make my living - I do it more as a hobby or use PHP to fill the gaps in certain areas.

It would be really nice if you could mention what type of programming background you currently have. Otherwise, it may be difficult for people to get a gist of how easily you're able to pick it up depending on your previous experiences.

I'm curious to learn Objective-C as well, but I'm really only a PHP developer. I've done some Basic and a little bit of VB in the past, as well as some AppleScript, but nothing touching C or C++.

Torrents themselves are not illegal.

The content of the torrent may be depending on what you download. Obviously TV Shows, Movies, Applications, and things of that genre would most likely be a big "no-no" on a college campus.

Other things such as linux distros, game demos, etc are completely legal. For example, if you play World of Warcraft, the updates for the game are done via a torrent system, which of course is completely legal.
uTorrent isn't your mommy's torrent program. It's really meant for power users (although it can easily be used by casuals just as well).

Specifically, the fact that uTorrent can parse RSS feeds and enough options to keep you busy for weeks goes to show how much effort is put into this program.

This isn't to take anything away from Transmission, but it terms of advanced usage, there is no comparison.

Just wanted to point that out for all the people wondering "Why uTorrent?"
I find that the downloading of TV shows via torrents or other means is at best a gray area and not necessarily piracy (although I'm sure most people will disagree with me).

Most of us have PVRs (myself included) and how many of us actually watch the commercials instead of fast forwarding past them?

Movies are a little different obviously, but for TV shows, seeing as we get them on TV, we're able to PVR them and we don't have to watch commercials, well it's not that much different from downloading them.
WTH?

Midomi and Shazam are two completely different apps.. They're used for finding out the info for a song playing on the radio.

Why are you comparing these two apps to streaming apps that are for listening to internet radio on your phone?

Two completely different things!
EDGE uses your phone line, hence the reason why calls are dumped to voicemail. When using an EDGE connection, you cannot make/receive calls.

This isn't the case with 3G.
Two words: Nullriver's Tuner

Better than these two apps, 500 stations to choose from, bookmark ability, ability to add your own shoutcast server or streams. Yes, it's 4.99, but it's worth every penny.

You disappoint me TUAW. Maybe you guys should have a budget to try out the pay-apps instead of just the free ones?

Dear Rogers,

This does cut it.

If you use more than 6GB per month on a mobile device, well, I honestly pity you.

Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"All of these new nettops have me intrigued. I'm looking for a small, quiet and cheap PC to replace my aging tower in my home office, and all it really needs to do is load Microsoft Office, check email and surf the web. Is there a particular nettop that's better (or a better value) than another? I know it's a rather new segment, but hopefully someone has taken a chance on one already. Thanks!"
