Techspansion closes, VisualHub discontinued {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Oct 3rd 2008 1:41PM Wow. Such a good application. Sad to see it go.

One of the ugliest icons ever, but one of the best applications ever.

First Look: WriteRoom for iPhone {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Sep 15th 2008 11:51AM WriteRoom for the iPhone is a great way to jot notes down. I am especially pleased to see a landscape mode on a writing app for the iPhone.

Now the Jesse has divulged that the updates will give users the ability to select the text color, it makes it even more useful.

Now, if someone could get the Apple Bluetooth keyboard to pair with the iPhone...

Back to School: Writing tools, part II {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Sep 3rd 2008 3:45PM Scrivener can be used for all types of writing: research, creative, etc.

The best writing application of the lot. (I consider WriteRoom to be a different type of writing application. Together, they make an incredible combo.)

Well worth the $35.

Sep 2nd 2008 5:13PM WriteRoom is one of my all-time favorites and I recommend it to my students. Scrivener is great for research and creative writing students.

MacUpdate promo bundle discounts 7-10 apps {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Dec 3rd 2007 12:04PM XMIND Pro is selling for $99, not $299 directly from the developer's site. They state it's a sale of sorts.

Is the Apple TV a dud? {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

May 31st 2007 1:43PM I think what would assist the AppleTV is the ability to connect and view content like MLB.TV and other online material. I canceled my DirecTV when I knew I could subscribe to all the games, pay less than the DirecTV package price, and not have to pay the $49/a month or higher just to have the regular DirecTV package. I have hooked up my MacBook Pro to my HD and watched games. Sure, it's not the quality of DirecTV's picture, but I would rather watch games this way and save $600+ a year.

I believe Setanta Sports will do something similar with Premier League Soccer from England in the Fall.

YouTube will be low-quality on a HD screen and I have a hard time thinking the family will gather around the screen to watch the idiot du jour.

What Apple TV should do is get associated with JOOST and these other content providers who are envisioning the Internet as a way to deliver programs on-demand to customers.

SOHO Notes updated to version 6 {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

May 27th 2007 10:00AM @Scott-O-Rama: Paying for upgrades is acceptable. However, SOHO is requiring users of 5.x to upgrade after using an application for a year of bugs, data loss, and non-response from customer support. They finally got the application to a reasonable state and WHAM! they're asking for another paid upgrade.

PM is correct. Don't release a beta in disguise and charge the customer. Then, when you finally have a working app, don't come knocking again asking for more money as an upgrade.

@Merv: I use all three. (I should say "used" when it comes to SOHO. Never again.) Yojimbo is great because of the .mac sync features. Journler is interesting, but I still don't know what it wants to be. A low-end DevonThink Pro (which I use, as well). Is it akin to MacJournal? What you can't argue about is that Journler is donationware, which unlike the greed of SOHO, I am willing to support whole-heartedly.

I guess all these apps are just looking for, in the words of George Carlin, "A place for your stuff."

They all have pros and cons. Since getting into the GTD methodology, I am looking for the proper and most efficient one.

All I can say is that SOHO has taken itself out of the picture with bad service and costs.
