MotionPlus totally ambushes third-party developers {Nintendo Wii Fanboy}
Jul 22nd 2008 7:23PM Here's the thing...
The Wii motion plus will be mostly only for Nintendo games... this gen. Next generation, every controller from every game company will have improved motion-controls built-in. Until then, don't expect much from it. Wii Sports 2, and maybe a few smaller 1st party efforts.
I have a feeling all the rumors about Sony and Microsoft introducing motion-based controllers forced Nintendo to show their cards earlier than everyone expected.
Google goes MMO-ish with Lively {Joystiq}
Jul 9th 2008 3:16PM between this, and the upcoming Animal Crossing for Wii, there will be no shortage of ways to do 3D chat this fall.

Jul 9th 2008 2:35PM This reminds me of how much Sony talked up the PSP being an iPod killer cause it could play video. Yet while Sony was flapping its gums about how cool the PSP WOULD be, Apple launched the iPod Video, and let people have the product. By the time the PSP launched, it looked pathetic with its feeble memory card storage compared to the smaller iPod holding 80 gigs of video.
The same thing just happened with Home. Sony talked for years about how Home would be a virtual space where people can share video. Only now google's already done it, letting people embed these worlds into their own FaceBook and Blogs. Lively is gonna be big, and it here to stay.

'Lifestyle' apps key to PSP's non-gaming growth {Joystiq}
Jun 27th 2008 8:45AM Not to mention that by the time these products hit the USA, the first Google Android phones will be out, all of which have cameras, GPS and always-on Internet access.

Shopping for something? Snap a photo of the bar code and the Android phone will instantly return a Google search with information on the product including reviews, and price comparisons.
Keep in touch with friends using Commandro, a GPS-enhanced social networking app that lets you map and track your friends in real time while using the IM function to plan impromptu meet-ups on the go.
This is the kind of future we will be living in in the next year, and it makes the PSP look like a bloated, overweight has-been with a really shitty battery life.

Jun 27th 2008 8:23AM I don't know about you, but around my home there are at least 6 digital cameras of one kind or another. One of them in my phone takes photos better than the PSP camera, and I carry it with me everywhere I go. I don't need to worry about the PSP's battery, nor do I have to juggle the accessory into place when I want to snap a photo.

Jun 27th 2008 8:19AM The problem is, for things like a GPS or a camera, there are much better and cheaper alternatives, all of which are smaller, more portable with better battery life and no expansions to juggle. Not to mention that everyone has a camera as good as the PSP version built into their cellphone.
Just because you CAN make a device multi-functional does not mean you SHOULD. Focus on doing something exceptionally well... better than the competition... before you try to be everything to everyone and fail.

Jun 23rd 2008 8:16PM I have a 60 gig PS3 and a 20 gig Xbox 360. Both of which have filled up in the past. I've done what any sane person would do and removed the items I use infrequently.
Wii is no different.
