1) The "grand opening" of the MS Store with a few nerds lined up outside, more excited about getting to touch a girl than anything they would buy in the store. And Lisa's attempt to get them to cheer was just sad. Way to reinforce the stereotype that nobody wants MS products guys.
2) Oprah, sounding like a complete moron, excited about getting to go in an Apple store. Then excited about the new red ipod. "Ooh! It's Red! I know nothing else about it but I'll take ten!" Way to reinforce the stereotype that Apple customers are clueless and easily distracted by shiny objects.

Harry Potter book 8 comes out for the Kindle. They sell a million copies at $10. The gather statistics on the Kindle to see that people are continually re-reading it. So the publisher "pulls" the book back, refunds your $10, and re-lists it for $15.
Oh an they use the stats they gathered to target specifically the people re-reading the book and are most likely to pay the extra money for it.
At what point does this cross the line from sleazy to illegal?

Jul 23rd 2009 4:46PM You're right about the content never really being your own, which the author hinted at. But the second part of the problem he seems to miss when he says "they reached out and removed it from MY device". The concept that all these vendors do not want you to figure out is that not only is the content never really yours, but the DEVICE is not really yours either. The Kindle is theirs. You're just buying the right to use one until it breaks.
Your iPhone? joint ownership by Apple and AT&T. They try to control what you can do with it. Sure jailbreaking is tolerated now, but fast forward another 10 years and I bet you it will be completely illegal to do anything with one of these devices outside the scope of what they designed it for, and it will seem perfectly normal to prosecute you criminally if you do.
I feel like we're in a transition period deciding who owns that physical device you "paid for".

Jul 16th 2009 10:21AM I have heard that most phones will survive this kind of dip into water. HOWEVER some water does seep in and starts corroding parts, causing problems like reduced signal strength and shorter battery life. That's why the phone company will reject giving you a warranty replacement on grounds of "signs of water".
I have no proof of this, just something I heard.

Jun 4th 2009 12:17PM Either I'm missing something or this is just lame. Why is this news? I guess the only thing I need to do to get front page on engadget alongside the iPhone and the Palm Pre and $100k electric sports cars is take something electronic and stick it in something else.
Hey! Come to think of it I "modded" a cardboard box a few months ago with 2 broken PDAs, an MP3 player, and some wireless headphones. Who should I email the pictures to so I can get the praise of engadget readers?
