Xbox 360: refused repairs, and really high failure rate? {Engadget}

Jul 4th 2007 12:32PM I took those x-clamps out and followed that great guide where I put in new screws/washers....Bam! Good as new!

It is purely a design flaw and Microsoft should stop putting the clamps in there. Though, it's never going to happen....

Oh, I took my crappy x-clamps and use it as my rear view mirror ornament, just to remind myself how Microsoft screwed up, when I enter my car. :)

Microsoft avoids 360 cooling rumors, calls hardware updates 'commonplace' {Joystiq}

Jun 15th 2007 3:54PM My 10/05 built 360 had the three red lights a few hours ago. I busted it open, cleaned their shoddy thermal paste job, brasso the heatsinks, and applied Arctic Silver 5. It all works now.

In the end, the problem was the CPU/fan and how it wasn't pulling out the hot air. After the fix, it is now hotter.

I believe the launch systems were rushed.

Mar 30th 2006 11:27AM Good move Walmart. Now you can put more "useful" products in place where the UMD movies were.

Mar 18th 2006 6:01PM I also don't care about next-gen formats, but I do care if the price of DL DVDs goes down.

VHS vs. Betamax - VHS won
MultiMedia Compact Disc (Sony & Philips) vs. Super Density Disc

In this case, Sony & Philips abandoned their MMCD and joined forces with the SD format, which we know today as the DVD.

Now we have Blu-Ray, up against HD-DVD.

Sony says: No PS3 announcments at CES {Engadget}

Jan 4th 2006 12:36AM #33 Such a fanboy respond.

Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 are consoles that can output 720p HD resolution and beyond. That right there makes them go in the "next gen gaming" category.

But the deal about Blueray (on the PS3) IMO is a marketing gimmick. It just screams out "Wow! New format! OMG! Bigger storage! BUY NOW! BUY NOW!"

If developers are wanting to use Blueray, the only reason is to fill it up with CGS. Stick with DVD and lower the cost of the console.

The only reason I would use a new format, no matter if it is Blueray or HD-DVD, is to watch movies in High-Def. And if a person that just want to watch "just" movies, that person wouldn't buy a PS3. That person will wait for the right time to buy a Blueray or HD-DVD player.
