Goodwood Festival of Speed featuring 135-foot monument to Audi {Autoblog}

Jul 2nd 2009 11:33PM @ zamafir

If I endeavored to design/make/pay for something that the article describes as:

"The total weight of the structure is 40 tonnes – the equivalent of 40 small family cars. It took two 100 tonne cranes to erect the structure and four weeks for 12 men to fabricate, build and install the structure."

I'd rather have an actual car than a pice of art representing them. And since artists, designers and the 12 men who fabricated it don't work for free, I'd just rather see those funds go to making a real vehicle. Even if it was just a one off, a demo, a test design, etc. I think it would have been a better show piece than the ever larger artistic centrepiece they made.

Just think: only three more cars to wreck and she'll officially be an "ACE".

Jul 2nd 2009 5:00PM Personally, I'd rather them spend all that time, energy, effort and money on making more awesome cars. But that's just me. I enjoy the 'art' of the automobiles themselves far more.

Poll: So how do YOU think Blu-ray is doing? {Engadget HD}

Jun 28th 2009 10:55AM The "right direction" is no longer using fragile media for playback. I've been trough LP's, 8-Tracks, Cassette Tapes, CD's, Mini-Discs, mp3's, VHS, S-VHS, Betamax, 3/4 inch, DVD's, HD-DVD's and now Blu-Rays and if there is anything I've learned over the years it is the inevitable evolution to a non media playback solution. Eventually all playback is going to end up on a computer or other hardware based tech, so I see no point in jumping into yet another fragile, scratch-able, breakable, lose-able format that will be replaced within a decade.

It is far simpler, more flexible and safer to play the media from cheap, clone-able, RAID-able replaceable, hard drives. It's going to all end up there eventually and I see no reason to wait through whatever format they come up with to replace BluRays in the years to come. But whatever it is, the computer solution will be ready and waiting for it and all I'll have to do is buy another drive.
