"She sells a lot of books, true -- because ham-fisted choir-preaching, arcane ravings and sloppily-written bile make for fun reading, I guess."

Have you even read one of her books entirely, she is extremely well-researched in the areas she talks about.

She was absolutely right when she said "Liberals don't understand hyperbole."

And as this post proves, they still don't.
"Dissent is the highest form of patriotism"

The whole, "Dissent is patriotic," in and of itself idea that some lefties seem to love so much is just silly. There's nothing inherently "patriotic" or "unpatriotic" about simply dissenting.

So, if someone says to you, "dissent is patriotic," treat the concept with the contempt it deserves. Say something like:

"Oh? Well, if a person says that he loves his country and someone dissents from that, which of them is more patriotic?"

If their heads don't explode like those people in Scanners, maybe a light bulb will go off for them.
Godwin's law anyone?
"That includes things like forcing brain-dead people to be kept alive on feeding tubes."

If Terri Schiavo was brain dead, she would be totally dead, not being able to move at all. Terri Schivo wasn't brain dead.

"WSJ and NRO isn't always a great idea, considering how misleading and often flat-out wrong those publications tend to be. "
Because they don't spew forth the great "liberal logic" such as the New York Times Op/Ed columns, or the LA Times Op/Ed columns. Kkkonservatives are evil, and they support racist and homophobic legislation!!!!

"Bush wouldn't have been able to become president if his party hadn't stoked the fires of the bigot-vote."
Everyone who isn't head over heels for allowing gay marriage is a bigot.
This is futile, we must make drastic changes to our lifestyle if we are ever going to repair the damaging rape that we, Western Civilization, have done to our planet, the only thing we can do is stop electricity all together. Haven't you seen "An Inconvenient Truth" by Al Gore, it basically sums up the situation that the earth would be better without humans, and I concur. Destroy everything in your house, and your house itself, it rapes the planet, but you blindly go on with your futile life.
#3 "I find it quite obscene that PLAY can be considered bad for a child, while sitting and absorbing the pre-determined world of television is considered negative.

What kind of topsy-turvy world are we living in?"

Umm, the last time I checked, aren't videogames a "pre-determined" world, isn't almost every communication medium have some "pre-determination to it?"

Anyways, you have to take this survey from a parents perspective, and know, a majority of them are not morons, nor are they from MIT, and (gasp) there are some that have an IQ of 100!!! From a parent's perspective there are tv shows that have some redeeming educational/"scientific" value, there is also an innumerable amount of websites where you can go to get educational resources, but when it comes to videogames, there is not a lot of educational resources, other than Brain Age for the DS, or Sudoku (games that are *explicitly* "educational" in the traditional sense.)
"It's part of the lack of educational funding this country has...though increasing teachers's salaries would probably be the best thing to do with any more money in that area here at the moment."

Hahahahah lol, you really think that there is a lack of "educational funding" too much is spent on "education" because it is "for the children" and most of it is spent on "administrative costs" or other bureaucratic agencies. Education is over funded.

"Kim, I'm not sure what your definition of scalping is but the one I get from a dictionary is 'To resell at a price higher than the established value:'. You scalp. Sorry if you don't like the way that word sounds, but it is what you do."
Oh wow, let's use a negative connotation to describe an integral part of economics. Selling things at market value is now inherently evil and "scalping."

"I didn't say a poor family. I said a family that was less well off. Or do you think that if a family can afford to spend $400 on a system for their kids birthday that they can also afford $1000 for that same system?"
Some families can, the seller is not a charity, sorry, but you could argue some families can't afford $400, but can afford $200, and thus selling things at MSRP is now considered "scalping." Established value, what does this mean market value or MSRP?

"You make money, and that's enough that you don't have any trouble looking at yourself in the mirror. That's fine. But lets call it what it is, scalping, and lets not pretend that it isn't taking something away"
Taking something away, sorry, the price will fall if sales drop, but if they don't it shows you people can afford it.

"...from someone who can afford it at sticker price, and selling it to someone with a lot more money to burn."
So, economics 101 will tell us when sales begin to drop (demand) supply will go up, and the way for our supply to sell is to decrease the price.

"I know the rich people like the service you offer. Saves them having to bother queuing up or following the console closely to know when pre orders open... but lets be realistic it doesn't help the market in anyway."
What is helping the market, giving away game consoles for free?

"It just helps you and the person who buys it."
Who else is suppose to directly benefit from it? Society, the whole world? Selling something is not suppose to be charitable, there is a difference between business and charity.

"Like I said, that's okay, but don't pretend you're helping anyone but yourself."
But I thought you just said we were helping the person buying the merchandise from us?
We are helping the economy satisfy a demand at a certain price level, but sorry, we selling something does not have to be charitable.

"Buying things and selling them on for a profit is quite smart, but it's a bit sad when a community of people who have shared all the hype and anticipation of their beloved console are openly declaring their plans to milk dry the people who can't get in a reliable pre-order."
It's peoples fault, no one is forcing people to buy it at at >MSRP. If people are willing to pay that amount, then they will pay it, don't like the price, don't buy it, it's not that hard.

"
If Sony cut out the middle man and put all there stock straight on eBay would these people be applauding them and saying "well it's only worth what people are willing to pay, what a smart move!" - I doubt it.
Wait till the Rev comes out, ouch!!"
Have people ever heard of a thing called patience?

25
"The stores have already agreed, when buying wholesale, that they will not charge over MSRP. They CAN sell bundles in their stores, but eBay is off-limits."
When do stores agree to sell it at a specific price, MSRP is suggested, not mandated.

27
"The stores are just doing what makes them the most profit - if some dork buys an overpriced console for over 3 times what its worth, why complain?"

Exactly

"You can't price gouge the willing. It's an auction for crying out loud and for a toy at that. People willingly bid, they are not forced."

Selgado gets it, why can't other people?

"41. One thing about Adam Smith, who people seem to be using as their reason for ripping people off:

Adam Smith was a Communitarian. He believed that the market could be guided by the "Invisible Hand" because, as a Communitarian, he believed that people had...wait for it...morals. He assumed that people became socialized into a society where you treat your fellow society members with fairness and respect. When you do, the Invisible Hand makes sure that everyone will buy for the appropriate price, because no one would be disrespectful enough to rip off a fellow member of the community.

It's amazing how many people use Adam Smith to justify ripping others off, when in fact he advocated the opposite. If you're going to do something, at least get your justification right."

Snurp, have you even read Adam Smith, the invisible hand is the invisible hand, not the communitarian one. Market value of a product is not gouging, people are not forced to buy these things.

"The fact is, that the scalpers are partly causing the problem they're benefitting from."
They wouldn't benefit from it if no one bought the increased price.

" this is what happens when their is a majority of republicans in power.. needless fear runs rampant"

What do republicans have to do with this? Really? Do we blame them for terrorists?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"What's the best gaming laptop for under 1,500 bucks? I had my eye on the P7805u (Gateway), but it seems Best Buy has run out for the time being. Also, as a secondary question, I like the specs on brands such as iBUYPOWER and CyberPower and the like, but are they reliable? I'm a little worried about buying labels that aren't huge like Dell, Gateway, etc. Thanks!"
