Typical; the 7-day return policy has just run out for me on the MFM-HT75W I bought. It's basically a 17" version of this screen, and is very, very good. I've recently spent £6k on LCD HDTVs, and they all went back. Bought this as a stopgap, and don't plan to upgrade for some time now it's so good. (which was surprising, as I was disappointed with the 26" BRAVIA I had)

The specs aren't nearly as good as this new one either; 800:1, 16ms. Still, at least I can display 720p natively on mine, rather than having it scaled to 1680x1050...
The price is about right for the UK; we pay a premium on everything, and that puts it at the start of higher end sets. (for example, Sony BRAVIAs are downt to around $2100 now after being on sale for about 6 months)

"HD Ready" is a European thing that basically guarantees that the set has at least 720 lines of resolution, and will display 720p and 1080i in both 50Hz and 60Hz over Component and HDCP compliant DVI or HDMI.

It is a very useful standard, as many older televisions sold here would not display 50Hz HD signals, or did not have HDCP.
I have a 17" Rev.D Powerbook G4, and my screen is also brighter at the bottom; I assumed that this was just normal for laptop displays, as they're so much thinner than any other LCD I've seen. (it also had a strong red cast before calibration, as yours seems to be showing)

I don't know if the "hissing" is the same as the noise I get from my G4 Powerbook, but it has been on two other machines - it seems to be very slightly louder at the top-right of my machine though. If I load up iMovie HD and go to "titles" and preview "3D Spin" it changes to a "chirping" noise.

I have no idea why this happens, but I did find a fix. Put in your system disc, search for "CHUD" and install it. This adds a new "Processor" pane to system preferences. If you disable "Allow Nap" it goes away, for the most part. I have been doing this for almost a year now with my Powerbook and it has been running fine. It does not seem to have affected battery life or heat output at all.

This value resets every time you restart/shutdown your machine unfortunately, and I can't seem to find the AppleScript I had to change the default value on startup.

I have no idea if this will work on the Intel machines or not, but I hope it does.
Was there anything about ClearLCD / Aptura backlighting mentioned? There was a PDF about the technology saying that sets will be released in Q1 with the new system implemented. I predicted seeing Ambilight 3 with all edges lighting up appearing with the tech.

I'm in the market for a new HDTV, and Aptura has me sold. (LCD with no motion blur) Was there any mention of 1080p on these sets?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I own an iPhone 3G and I'm looking for a decent speaker / alarm clock for it. I am going to listen music in a mid-sized room, so I want nice quality speakers with solid bass. I also want to use it as an alarm clock, so it would be great if there is such a feature. The price can be low-mid to mid-high range. I was looking at the Klipsch iGroove SXT; it's powerful, slick and the reviews are good, but it doesn't have an alarm clock feature. It's no deal breaker if I can set it up from the iPhone, but I'm not sure. Thanks!"
