I downloaded this update and it has problems. It takes a LONG time to lock onto GPS (way long than previous version) and while driving, it constantly loses GPS lock (this didn't happen with previous version).

FYI
FYI - I've had an R-09 for quite awhile. It works really well in most respects (yes, I've used it to record at concerts). The user interface is superb, display is great, sound quality of built-in mic is OK (using external mic is better), and the auto gain control follows the volume well.

Where this recorder falls flat is if you're recording something quiet - like a talk with silence in between. Then the background hiss (assumably sub-par preamp) becomes noticeably. Anytime I've recorded voice only, I have to apply noise reduction in post.
The 250 gig drive is $129 at Costco
Pick me and I shall be full of grate.
The "ugh" factor for me was the display itself. With a gray background, it's reminiscent of the old style hard-to-read b/w LCD screens. E-ink is supposed to be nano balls suspended in liquid. So why can't we have pure white background, like a piece of paper? I actually read books on my Palm PDA. I'll take nice and bright screen over over Sony E-ink.
I've no issues with the keyboard. On my MacBook, I can touch type as fast as any kbd. AND - because of the flat surface - it'll be way easier to clean that the chiclet kbds. The old Apple kbd was impossible to keep clean, never mind the dirt and clubs that was made visible by the transparent glass.

BUT - what's up with the missing keypad on the wireless kbd?? Jobs says people like to work with their kbd on their laptop. Does anyone here actually work with their kbd on the laptop?
Does anyone know the address of this house. At least we can look it up on Google Earth.
Although I'm an Apple head, I agree this is totally stupid and anal on Apple's part. I mean, there are Macintosh user groups all over the country. These groups only help to promote and propel the Apple way of computing. So are they going to send cease and desist letter groups to these user groups?
Eddie - battery life is irrelevant. At $39, it's USB powered (not wireless).
E-ink is supposed to be nanospheres floating in a liquid. All well and good. But why does the background have to be gray? I went and look at Sony e-ink reader and, again, gray background. Readable but I found myself wondering why we couldn't have a simple white background. We have had to live with gray background since the dawn of LCD. A more legible white background was what I was looking forward to with e-ink. Can someone explain this?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I am looking for a 12- or 13-inch ultraportable that can also play modern games at a reasonable level, for less than $1,000. I know the brainiacs out there can help me out. Love the site, thanks!"
