Oct 26th 2009 12:04PM @Brent: Interestingly enough, the Apple Store at Pentagon City in Arlington, VA opened in a location immediately adjacent to a Sony Style Store that had been in the mall for 2-3 years.
The Apple Store was bright, airy and usually packed. The Sony Store was much darker, smaller, uninviting and rarely had more than a handful of people in it. Within three months, Sony moved their location within the mall, to the third floor, I think to escape the juxtaposition.
I don't really think Apple followed the Sony model, if anything, it's closer to a GAP store for computers.
(I had to walk through the mall each workday morning and evening, to get to/from the Metro station.)
