No Trophy support Saints Row 2 {Joystiq Playstation}
Oct 14th 2008 6:11AM No trophies??! That's FINE with me! All this trophie cr*p is ruining gaming. People are refusing to play good games because they don't have trophies and they are flocking to mediocre titles if they do. Talk about shallow..'casual' gamers...that's the trophy whores!Any game that does NOT have trophy support, will get a second look...if it is stuck with this trophy trash, then it better be a really great game to make up for the inconvenience.
How would you change Acer's Aspire One? {Engadget}
Sep 5th 2008 10:23PM I have the Aspire One...in fact I am writing this post on it right now...I agree that Bluetooth would have been an excellent addition but it is an oversight that is easily rectified. Kensington has a very appropriately sized USB Micro Bluetooth adapter which works perfectly. So, now I have my bluetooth mouse and keyboard available whenever I need them.
A more easily replaced HD would be nice but I can live with 120Gb for the moment.
All in all, I think it is a great deal for the money and I am happy that I have it.
Philosony: Carpe Trophaeum {Joystiq Playstation}
Aug 23rd 2008 11:52PM I am proud to say that I have 0...ZERO...nil...nada...no trophies at all and I expect to keep it that way. In fact, I see the whole thing as such a negative 'feature' that I will hesitate to buy games that do not allow the 'trophy' system to be disabled completely.
Greenpeace report: PS3 contains hazardous chemicals {Joystiq Playstation}
May 20th 2008 5:56PM All of this is quite meaningless. When somebody reports that X product 'contains' [hazardous substance] Y the most important question is: In what quantities? Take the reference to Pthalates 'contained' in the PS3. These are chemicals that are used to soften plastics. I expect that they were probably used to make the rubber feet on the bottom of the PS3 and even if you decided to rip off and eat them...I doubt if you would incur and ill effects at all. In short, a product can 'contain' harmful chemicals but in such insignificant amounts as to make warnings pointless.WARNING: Scientitsts have recently discovered that the common everyday automobilr contains (on average) at least 50 litres of a toxic, highly inflamable and explosive petroleum product. All owners of automobiles are urged to stop using them AT ONCE and call government environmental specialists for proper disposal...(unless the car is a Ferrari and then you can call me personally and I'll take care of it for you.) ;-)
WiiWare paves the way for homemade Wii games {Engadget}
Apr 15th 2008 1:23PM Before people completely soil themselves over this news, remember, the Wii has NO hard drive...and has only about 512Mb of RAM. Where are you going to keep all of these marvellous 'indie' games? On SD Cards? Where they are not playable until MOVED back to Wii memory (not a fast process) and then moved back to the SD warehouse each and everytime the game is played.One of these games may take up 90% of your available memory so...say bye bye to instant access to VC games or even installing new games (like Brawl which has its own memory demands)
90% of games bought online by 2018, claims SCEE's Maguire {Joystiq Playstation}
Apr 12th 2008 9:38PM I realize that there are many people who have some kind of vested interest in Digital Downloads of games or HD movies and there is no shortage of predictions of the immenent disappearance of physical media...but I don't think it will even happen.As a case in point, today I went out to buy a copy of WarHawk (with the BT headset) for my girlfriend's daughter. It took me roughly 10 minutes to drive to the store and pick up the game. However, when we got home, there were updates to download and install. Suffice to say, it took 6x longer to download the update than it did to buy the game...almost an hour. How long would the entire game have taken.Warhawk is an interesting example because there is a disc version AND a downloadable PSN version available. The PSN version has less content than the disc version (and it had the BT hardware as well). Why would I want to spend my evening watching the download progress inch its way to 100% when I could be playing?Also, the Digital download supporters have yet to address the real issue of ISP 'traffic shaping' where providers purposely reduce the amount of available bandwidth between certain peak hours specifically to discourage downloading and P2P file transfers. These policies will effectively kill downloads of everything but patches, updates and trailers.So, don't expect to see the end of physical media anytime soon...it ain't gonna happen.
Please, don't buy this Wal-Mart GOW PSP {Joystiq Playstation}
Mar 31st 2008 6:51PM I actually work for Wal-Mart Canada in Electronics and I have never seen this bundle or this skin before. We certainly aren't selling it in my store!
Disney sells 4 million movies and over 40 million videos on iTunes -- amounts to nothing {Engadget}
Mar 13th 2008 12:49PM One problem with downloads is that they make it difficult to transfer the downloads between machines. If you want have a TV in the bedroom or a portable DVD player for travelling...you are out of luck with downloads. This is why people will always prefer the freedom of physical media. Downloads are fine for temporary time shifting...shows that you didn't have time to watch when they were originally aired and will delete as soon as they are done.
Lionsgate adds iTunes Digital Copy, starting with Rambo {Engadget HD}
Mar 12th 2008 10:35PM Yes, I may have a 60" plasma at home but when I really want to impress the guys there is nothing like a hefty 1.5" ipod screen to watch the latest action film.
Lionsgate adds iTunes Digital Copy, starting with Rambo {Engadget HD}
Mar 12th 2008 6:14AM The recent release of "Resident Evil-Extinction" came with a digital copy. Just yesterday Hitman on BD has a digital copy. So this nothing new, besides, who would want to watch a movie on an ipod? The screen is ridiculous. Get a PSP at least and save your eyes.
