iTunes activation servers go down, iPhone 3G customers being sent home unactivated, first-gen iPhone customers stuck with dead iPhones {Engadget}

Jul 11th 2008 3:12PM UK O2 sucked big time. Their servers crashed again, just like the last time (apparently they haven't learned anything...)

Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection 2 now available {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jul 1st 2008 6:34PM "Beta" used to mean software that is *feature-complete*, and in testing phase.

Apple launches 802.11n Airport Express right on cue {Engadget}

Mar 17th 2008 4:07PM The wired port is probably ment only for connecting cable modem. It shouldn't bother such users unless they live in Singapore ;)

Mar 17th 2008 4:00PM @Harkonian: 64bit and 40bit WEP encryption is the same thing. It's a 64bit key, but actually only 40 bits are used for encryption. But don't bother with it, it can be cracked in 15 minutes. 128bit (AKA 104 bit) WEP takes a day. Only WPA holds these days.

iPhone SDK comparison chart {Engadget}

Mar 6th 2008 3:54PM Calling S60 SDK "mature" is an euphemism. It's an outdated old junk severly crippled with hacks made for early pre-C++ and lack of real multitasking.

Mar 6th 2008 3:50PM Objective-C on the red? That's not very objective :)

1. It's a pretty decent language and should be even better on iPhone - you've got many goodies of high-level languages like duck typing and garbage collection, but you can drop "Objective" part any time and optimize code a lot.
2. It's compatible with C, so you could easily translate from another language or embed script interpreter in your application (there are plenty of them available already)

Time Capsule first impressions {Engadget}

Mar 1st 2008 7:37AM I hoped Apple will make it nearly silent like most of their hardware, but from the description, it seems no better than LaCie BigDisk (which I've got recently and I'm happy with).

Microsoft slammed by European Commission with $1.35b fine {Engadget}

Feb 27th 2008 12:26PM @Saad Rabia: bundling is illegal *if* it abuses dominating position in another market.

Now focus:
1. This does not mean that bundling is illegal.
2. This does not mean that dominating market is illegal.

If both bundling and dominating another market are true, *then* it's illegal.

Get it? Neither Mozilla nor Opera nor Apple are in such situation, so they can bundle (or not bundle) what they please.

Microsoft slammed by European Commission with $1.35b fine {Engadget}

Feb 27th 2008 12:19PM You seem to think that if there was no Microsoft, there would be no good word processors, no good programming frameworks, IDEs and SQL servers.

It's not true. We've got MS vs crap because MS killed off all competitors and now they dictate prices and quality.

In healthy competetive environment we could have cheaper, better and interoperable software (not neccessary open source - it has nothing to do with it).
