Don't be so critical of the dude. When people think of "Europe" they think of Western Europe. Eastern Europe has a different connotation to it. Although most Russians love to call themselves European and have a fixation with everything French. Russian culture and food is very much influenced by Asia. And since the majority of the country is in Asia, it is very easy to see how one could exclude Russia from "Europe."
