Oct 18th 2006 4:55PM Ryan: Sorry, I saw your post after I submitted my comment. Here's how I did it:
First, I set off the alarm so I would have an example image to test. The image is saved to your home folder.
Then.....
I create an Automator workflow that consists of 3 actions: (I'm at work on a PC so I don't have the exact action names in front of me so they may be a bit off)
1. Get specific file: Select the specific image that is in your home folder
2. Create an E-Mail: Enter your e-mail address and give it a title. I named mine "The person who stole my computer!"
3. Send All Mail: This will go ahead and send your mail.
Now, save it as a plug-in and select "Folder Action". I named it "iAlertU E-Mail." Go to your home folder and delete the current iAlertU photo. Next, right-click and select the folder actions menu. You will see the "iAlertU E-Mail" action in the list and select "OK". From now on, whenever an image with the name created by iAlertU is added to your Home folder, it automatically is e-mailed to you while the Alert screen is still flashing.
Voila!

Oct 18th 2006 4:45PM You can do this for free by creating an Automator Workflow that will e-mail you the photo taken by iAlertU. Just save it as a folder action for your home folder and whenever the alarm goes off, the image is e-mailed in the background to your account.
Alot cheaper than the $40 for Transmit. Or, if you like the FTP idea, you can get an "upload to FTP" Automator Action for free and do the same thing.

May 25th 2006 12:58PM I have done something similar. For 1/3 the cost of a plasma, I have a 100" screen and a Sanyo Z2 projector.

If you have the space, a projector is the way to go. I went to see a movie in the movie theater last weekend after not going for 8 months and after building the HT. My picture and sound were highly superior and for the cost of one movie ticket, I can get a month's worth of DVDs from Netflix.

May 8th 2006 3:43PM I live in Montgomery County, MD and the Comcast cable offerings here suck beyond belief considering it is part of one of the largest demographics in the country (DC/NOVA/MD). It is over priced, the techs on the phone don't even know what channels the HD stations are on, They run commercials advertising TNT-HD on channel 204 when it is on channel 249, they can't even get internet access to work at my house: even after sending out technicians 3 separate times, I had to replace my HD-DVR 4 times in the past 6 months because it stops working, one I received was a refurb and hadn't even been fixed: it still contained shows recorded by the last person who returned it for not working correctly, they sent out a batch of "bad remotes" that were not on the correct frequency so they did not work with their own cable boxes, there is less HD content available than what my brother gets and he lives in BFE on a small cable company, they give us Universal HD during the olympics and then take it away. Why? If it's available then give it to us (I want it for Battlestar Galactica in HD), their website sucks, their tech support speaks broken english at best, The HD bandwidth is highly limited: to the point where DVDs look better, the signal goes out all the time, the on-screen menu has recently been "upgraded" to include advertisements at the bottom of the screen, thus taking away an extra channel-info display line. They already charge too much, now they get extra revenue from this and make the user interface even worse?!? Should I go on, because I can?!?!?!?!?!? Come on Verizon, get on the move and offer your service in my area.

Apr 27th 2006 4:38PM I just entered the Automator Workflow category. I created a workflow for automatically creating podcasts. It creates an AAC bookmarkable audio file and an iPod-ready video version (with any text or graphics you want overlayed) as well as generating the respective RSS feeds. It interfaces with iTunes U or any website. In addition, it can be scheduled in iCal so if a teacher wanted to record a class, it could easily be set up to record automatically at any given time. In addition, it can operate from a wireless laptop and upload to the same RSS feed as the classroom so a teacher is not limited to recording in the classroom. It is meant to be used in higher education for students to have an instant archive of all classes online. The best part is it operates on an out-of-the-box Mac. You saw it here first. Don't steal my idea!
