@Anthoni I'm not sure what the issue is with the trackpad. I bought one for my wife a month ago (Envy 13) the track pad works fine and dandy. You get the occasional 'Oops two fingers hit the pad and made the cursor go somlplace silly' but that's about all I noticed. The trackpad works just like any other trackpad in my opinion. The slice battery is pretty wicked though. The laptop lasts 7 hours with both batteries in, being on and used constantly....true story, surprised myself even because I figured it would only hit 4-5 hours max, maybe hit 7 hours in a low power setting at best.
I would love the Envy 15 to replace my HP DV6233SE. It's only right that a loyal HP user be rewarded with a new HP product :) I work in the old HP head office to, so it's meant to be. Hook me up! :)
You are awesome!

Hp shouldn't have put the fan vents on the base of hte Envy15 though. I guess they figured it would be better to add the vents even though it may be blocked at times.. Better than having a battery swell and blow up, ala Macbook Pro:P Macs should be cheaper than the HP Envy. the Envy has NEW current hardware, not 2 year old processors and stuff like the MBP. The Envy is still overpriced, but you get a great desktop in the form of a laptop. Needs the edge to glass screen though....
Looking at the spec of the Envy comparative of the best Macbook Pro configuration, the HP Envy beats the Macbook Pro in almost all aspects. I never understood why people buy Core 2 Duo chips when they are so 2 years old. I've had a quad core desktop for 2 years or so. I haven't seen any retail laptop with an i7 chip, I'm pretty sure that beats the macbook pro, along with the addition of a graphics card as opposed to built in graphics which must be a first. Look, the HP Envy is a great product, I will definitely be buying one. I would have bought a Mac along time ago, I bought one for my sister to use in her marketing calss and they construction is great. Overall, teh macbook doesn't handle all the things i like to do on a computer. If there was more software available it would be nice. The hardware has never really impressed me, it seems to be lacking. Atleast now there is a PC line of laptops that look as good as the mac products (depending on taste) and now PC users can have laptops that work great and also look great. The Envy 15 should have have the edge to glass screen like the Envy 13 and their HP Mini 2133 notebooks. Not sure why they cheaped out with the plastic shroud around the screen. Would have looked classier. A backlit keyboard, although not really of use to myself, would have been nice. Pretty much hook me up with a laptop that looks like a mac but has the capibilities and upgradability of a PC.
If that's the case, you should look into the Hai Omni Pro series. Check out their site, www.homeauto.com I install these bad boys, and they're awesome. Security, home automation, lighting control and everything that is constantly upgradeable. Basically the possibilities are as endless as your creativity.
Should have went with the cooler Logitech Dinovo Edge keyboard instead though ;)
Unlike what KSmith said, I currently have an HP Pavilion DV6233se, and I actually like it. Yes, the track pad button are kinda odd, bubbly and click. But soft, it is different from my Toshiba Satellite but it's nice. I'm writing this post on my Toshiba right now and my DV6233se is on right beside me. The difference I can note, the touchpad buttons, and the screen brightness. Both have WXGA displays, but the Toshiba is by far brighter and clearer. I think the bezel on the HP looks good though. Personally, I chose the HP cause it is white, for basically the same reasons as you, not wanting to get a MAC, albeit they are super sweet looking, everytime I go into the Apple store there are hoards of people bringing in the Apple products to get fixed and that was a big let off to me.

Anywho, the Hp is cool. I had webcam driver issues with it out of the box once I removed Hp's preinstalled Muvee software from it. Don't waste your time with HP tech support though. I know it's free, but they're useless, they'll just tell you to pack up the laptop and send it in for servicing and leave you without a laptop for 2 weeks. I can't believe how horrible tech support is these days. Enough rambling.

Hp dv6233se is a good laptop especially for its price, unbeatable I'd say, plus it comes with a remote which is just plain old cool.
Heck, I thought the same as you. But then I went out and got one for my fiance and Holy beegebers. It's better than carrying around my laptop. Hacked the PSP right out of the box, downloaded a bunch of games, a whole bunch of videos and music. I'm telling you, the PSP is under-rated. It's by far the best portable media player out there. You don't even have to use it for playing games, I rarely do. Watching episodes of The Office and such is awesome on the bright crisp 4 or 5 inch screen( i think it's 4.some odd inches, but I'm too lazy to look into it right now), which ever it is. I know the screen sounds small, but it's big compared to other choices and holy heck is it ever bright and crisp. I kid you not. Go out buy yourself a PSP and a bunch of Memory Stick cards and you're set for videos, music, games, and internet browsing for ever, leave the clunky laptop at home.

Nake sure whichever one you buy has a sku with the letter K or less on it. You'll notice the letter to the far right, all by its lonesome. If you get an L or higher you'll need an old copy of GTA:LCS to hack it. Check out www.psp-hacks.com It'll make the PSP a great investment. That's just my two cents, but I'm sure there are plenty of other people here that would agree.
Who cares if they buy Macs. People are running Windows on Macs nowadays like wild fire. So what does that tell you? Obviously people prefer the Windows OS over the Mac OSX. They also prefer the aesthetics of a MAC. I'm still waiting for a pc based company to mass produce a laptop that looks like a MACbook Pro, for the typical price of a PC based laptop/desktop as opposed to paying out the wazoo for a MAC that you can barely upgrade if at all, especially when it comes to their desktops.

Heck, someone float me $1 000 000.00 I'll get the project going and we can all use beautiful PC based computers that look super cool, run Windows, are upgradeable and don't cost an absurd amount of money.

Plus, the Macs are riddled with issues too. Obviously it's not heard as often, being on a smaller scale, cause there are less users. I cringe everytime I walk into an Apple store because there are always two or three people at the customer service desk bringing in their fairly new items to get fixed. It sucks to know such nice looking things don't work so well. Ever see the Macbook pros that don't boot past the login screen, and yet there are no hardware issues, and so Apple's warranty doesn't cover the defect since it's not hardware based out of the box? Not to mention the whining noises and other issues people have consistently had.
This guy is actually very popluar. He built the first suit that would withstand a full on bear attack, man on bear, hand to paw combat, and he's tested it himself more than a few times. And he's created a few generations of it. He also invented some impenetrable armour for the military that looks basically like gymnastics mats that you put on the side of military vehicles and such too. Impenetrable. The reason he has been so heavily involved in such military stuff is because his brother is in the army and he wants him to be as safe as possible. I beleive he also invented some sort of 'x-ray vision' machine that bends light. It's still being tested as many people are skeptical about it. That invention is wrapped up pretty tight, only certain people are in the know of its function etc. Look him up. He's a brilliant guy. Canadians have alot to offer. :)
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a wireless trackpad to use with my older (2.5 or so years old) C2D MacBook that's perpetually docked to my home theater. Something sleek, thin, not too small, made of high quality materials. Ideally, it would natively support all of (Snow) Leopard's multitouch inputs, and even more ideally, it would have a charging dock / base. The only problem is that I'm not sure that such a thing even exists. Think you can throw me a bone?"
