You didn't address another issue that impacts iPod touch users most significantly (but still occurs in the iPhone 3.1 as well). Running an app *with sound effects* won't let you double tap on the home button and get your iPhone controls. Previously, you were able to do this. This impacts iPod touch 1st-gen users of most substantially because they can't easily mute the app's sounds, thereby forcing users to exit the application, go into the Music application, and mute or change the volume of their sounds that way. Then they have to return to the game/app to play/utilize it.

I own the 1st and 2nd gen iPod touches, and while I have an "alternative" (the volume controls), I've always hated the fact that Apple doesn't let you choose your music library over some game sounds. I could totally get immersed in a game, playing for hours on end. Being forced, essentially, to listen to the game's same 1-minute sound effects, is torture. Apple should let me dictate what I want to hear, not preferring the app's music over mine.

The 3.1.1 upgrade actually killed the double-tap workaround that made this just bearable. I hated how it happened before and I hate it even more now. Do you find it ironic that this is a selling point for applications nowadays? Apple should've thought about that and made a universal-wide application-muting option or something. I vented about this on getsatisfaction.com:

That was my biggest gripe with Apple. They never mentioned the games at first. I bugged corporate and I guess they finally realized how potentially valuable that would be for monetization. MANY THANKS for that link!
Why do the photos look like they were scanned with some old-school technology? The photos seem pixelated and the quality is weak.

Also, I'd love it if someone can port the Amusement Park games for the Palm OS (AP1, AP2, and AP3, which I believe were released between 1999-2003) to the iPhone. These were games that were precursors to today's brain challenge games and rock. CakeSoftware.com used to maintain them, but the site went dead and the main contact, "David," is not reachable.
Pretty sad and highly unprofessional move on behalf of AOL.

I used AOL mail between 1993 and 1999. I moved to Gmail in 2005 when I noticed that Google (not AOL) was taking innovative steps toward how people approach email.

You have a problem with Gmail? You should have addressed that years ago instead of whining at the end of 2008 that they copied your damn sidebar.

Guess what, AOL? While I found this post from a blog post (no, I don't subscribe, and I see that I have no reason to), you permanently lost me as a user of your services.

"I'm looking for a wireless trackpad to use with my older (2.5 or so years old) C2D MacBook that's perpetually docked to my home theater. Something sleek, thin, not too small, made of high quality materials. Ideally, it would natively support all of (Snow) Leopard's multitouch inputs, and even more ideally, it would have a charging dock / base. The only problem is that I'm not sure that such a thing even exists. Think you can throw me a bone?"
