Ill be getting my first HDTV. I'm leaning toward vizio's new 552XVT internet enabled hdtv. I also have to replace my 20 year old Sony es receiver. I want to get an ht internet connected receiver so I can get internet radio stations and not have to pay for another Sirius license. Id like to be able to listen to KFI radio on my receiver so I can play games on my pc while I'm listening. :) I'm on the fence about getting a plasma. I really like Panasonic 54 inch internet enabled plasma. I'm worried about how hot they get and their reliability. Plus Id have a window on the side of it and in the front. My bedroom might be to bright in the day for a plasma.
There is a need for 4k now. Its mainly used in movie archiving and the dlp digital projection in movie theaters. The next step will be 4 k plasma and lcd screens for the consumer market in about 15 years from now. The red one cameras are capable of 4k as well.
This vizio is not edge lit. Its got a full array of leds to light up the lcd screen. They use local dimming to turn off the leds they don't need in dark scenes. I cant wait for the internet enabled version of this tv to come out. I'm holding out for that one. The internet version is expected to ship in december. Hopefully vizio fixed all the issues with that one to get it out in time.

I hope discovery hd theater gets the HD version of Top Gear. That would be cool.
Not everyone can afford the Kuro. I'm glad vizio is keeping all the other companies honest and bringing down prices for everyone.
2001 a Space Odyssey was stunning on bluray. That movie is the oldest one I have that is on bluray. They did a great job with it. I wouldn't mind seeing oz in the theaters. Id love to see 2001 come back too.
The media needs to get their act together. They have left out the fact that Van Jones is a known Communist. This boycott is just wrong. The left had no problems calling President Bush a racist when he was president.
TBS kills movies too. This article should have included that channel. They things they do to wreck hd is appalling at times.
Here you go. Its expensive though but cool no black bars any more.

@vanilla_sperm The black bars are great for wide screen movies. They give you the entire movie and not some stretched out mess. Here is the best demonstration that I've seen for explaining widescreen. Director/actor Leonard Nimoy did a great job with this. It really shows what you are missing from widescreen to pan and scan. http://widescreen.org/multimedia/nimoy.mov Check out widescreen.org for more information.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I am trying to configure out a really dumbed down and intuitive PC for my grandmother. She recently had a stroke and while she is under my care I would like to repurpose a laptop for her to surf and email her children. Anyone have any experience with what input devices and UI's are really understandable for the over 80 crowd?"
