I'd say it has reached its potential. Where it sits now is representative of all the potential it ever had. It really makes no sense.
I never use anything but column view. I really miss the functionality in list view that OS9 used to have and the column view makes a better replacement than does the current 'list'. Back in the old days when i learned to navigate a hard drive on windows 95 the explorer worked somewhat similarly. I tried Pathfinder for a bit but ended up using it like twice before the demo expired, column view serves my needs very well.
The only things that matter are that it can solve sudoku, and is the SEXIEST PROCESSOR EVER!

Look at it! it's gorgeous!
I love the soft sink bit. useful for throwing your glass in anger--- only to have it bounce back out!
looks like an ibook :P
What i don't get is the appeal of these things.
Though i felt the same about an apple phone, mostly because i figured that would be limited by the industry, and it was to some extent.
But i've always found the sub notebook thing to be silly. What would you use it for that wouldn't require occasional insertion of a disc? etc. It really seems to me to be another one of those middle products. while 'ultra portables' get more powerful the 'desktop replacement' gets less useful? I just don't get it.
ok i had to respond to this:

"no one really cares about Firewire800 mac fanboys, so I don't want to hear it"

news flash, neither does apple. not all that many macs even have firewire anymore.

"But still, mac has what, like a 9% market share, at most?"

why does anyone ever bring this up? It's like berating bmw for not competing with everyone's favorite superbest automaker from the land of the rising sun- Toyota in volume. that's just silly. Apple has always aimed a bit upscale. And you can't afford not to when you try and do so much of the system yourself.

what i find so annoying is all those damn people who get so uppity when somebody is Not slagging on apple. psh. grow up.

sorry for pulling out the horse-beating stick. it was reflexive.
and before i forget:
generalising makes you sound like a tool.
oh and kids, lay off the mac fans!
sheesh. there are and have been plenty of good reasons to get upset with the windows empire and having found something that doesn't make you freak as a replacement is something to shout about it. I'm just tired of getting a bum rap because some people just take it over the top.

And besides, if there was a dead horse that is no longer recogniseable as a fleshy being due to its being beaten to its component atoms this would certainly be it.
And there's no lack of love for gateseybaby from the engadget staff anyhow so chill folks.
Just because apple is finally getting some long deserved love from the establishment (ya that's you Engadget, even Gizmodo)is no reason to vent about the ovezealous among the mac faithful, the RDF can only work so far, there IS something beyond that whether you choose to vilify it or not.

and you're not geting a 67k just because your degree says 'business' on it so get off yer frickin horse. Or i'll start beating it to death.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm heading to university next year, and I've purchased a MacBook. I'm also taking my four year old desktop, just in case I'm left with no computers when the MacBook is being repaired or whatnot. With only two USB ports on a MacBook, I want a Bluetooth mouse. Budget is about $100, and of course, it needs OS X support. Thanks for the help!"
