one thing that the .gov have to watch out for is to test whether or not this will INCREASE your chances of getting struck by lightning.

test it in lightning/tornado alley in TX+OK. i'd hate to be struck by lightning just for the sake of convenience =P
verizon will never bring this out because it will eliminate a good chunk of its copper@home tel# business unless people have no internet (since paying for BOTH internet+copper line is more expensive than keeping it as is). it'd be stupid if they brought this out.

i'd love to see cingular bring this out. i have NO reception@home, this is a perfect replacement for our home copper line! we're on broadband anyways.
me like engadget. i think it makes me want to goto work so i can read your site all day long =P
4k downrez to 2k looks better than capturing 2k then rendering to 2k. there is SOME loss when you add fx/masks ontop of captured raw footage. not a lot, but noticeable.

then you have to consider colorspace. 4k@higher colorspace is better than 2k@higher colorspace, especially when you are rendering both to 1080p24.
for it to be a gadget, it's gotta be electronic. r u saying an abacus is also a "gadget"?
since when is deadlocks a "gadgets"? i haven't seen you guys create engadget "SECURITY?"
lol, i agree! i know intel has much more capital for marketing, but amd can DEFINITELY afford some ads. maybe not blue man's group, but why not canvas celebs to give them free CPU's and other gift baskets or incentive to be their spokesperson? i'll give you an example, robert rodriguez utilizes amd64 to render a ton of his troublemaker studio (aka his garage) for FEATURE films all the time like once upon a time in mexico, etc. i'm sure he'd do it for nice hardware upgrades to his gear. hopefully this guy leaving means an "upgrade" in marketing for amd. the better the marketing the more profit for amd, the more profit, the more $ for r&d, which translates to being able to compete better. i'm very skeptical of barcelona's claims against intel's current single socket quadcore solution.
thx matt4info. i had been searching for sacd =P. i never knew it existed. do you know if they have made a true universal player that plays DVD-A MLP AND SACD in 1 or double din? or do i have to install TWO separate head units?
what's the point? you need 40, 60"+ to truly enjoy 1080p.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I commonly need to boot a system from an external disc and take a snapshot of the host system. I also then need to burn a copy of the image to a DVD. While I can do it with two separate external devices, and two power supplies, and two I/O cables, it'd be nice to find a small dual-drive enclosure. It would need to have USB, eSATA, and FireWire. Either slim-line or half-height bay for the optical burner would be fine, and space for either a 2.5- or 3.5-inch hard disc. Any ideas?"
