LicketyShip's four hour gadget delivery service goes live {Engadget}
Oct 1st 2006 7:29PM They're going to have to expand their stock a LOT more for this to succeed.
I entered "Imate Jasjar" and "Qtek 9000" and "Dopod 900", and nothing came up. I know not everyone is looking for that device, but it's popular enough, especially for a place like SF, that they'll need to offer it along with some other higher-end products.
Sony Ericsson and Fossil team up for Bluetooth watch {Engadget}
Sep 29th 2006 9:24PM Rob said: "...does anyone under 30 still wear watches?"
Certainly they do, but your question really contains a clue to the answer... "anyone under 30"... It's called responsibility. Those of us who are thirty and older who have responsibilities and have to manage our time, wear watches. Certainly there are people under thirty who have to as well.

On another note, I don't think the watch is too big at all. Just the right size. Masculine, not dainty.
HP's Pavilion dv9000t goes HD DVD {Engadget}
Sep 29th 2006 8:45PM This looks like a nice laptop (Merom, HD DVD, HDCP, HDMI, video camera) but what is the deal with HP sticking with VGA ports? Time to move into the 21st century HP! Time for Dual-link DVI!
In addition to this laptop's current specs, it needs the following changes or additions:
- Two SLI-enabled 512MB Nvidia GeForce Go 7900 GTX Graphics Cards (1 GB of graphics memory total)
- W-UXGA Ultrabright glossy LCD (not just SXGA+, standard brightness, or matte finishes)
- Dual-link DVI port (not just DVI (and certainly not obsolete VGA), and on the back of the machine, not the side)
- HDMI port on the back of the machine (not the side)
- Digital Optical Audio port on the back (not the side)
- AC port on the BACK of the computer (not the side. These AC ports always seem to become loose and break and then stop working when located on the side because of the stress placed on them when the cord is pulling at a 90 degree angle, which demands an entire motherboard replacement. So this port needs to be on the back).
- At least one USB port on the back of the computer
- Integrated Biometric fingerprint reader
- Swiveling videocamera (not just stationary)
- Integrated TV tuner
- An IR port on the front that will work with the remote (no stupid external IR receivers!!!)
- Backlighting on the keyboard (not just a glow around the keys - I want to see the letters, numbers, and symbols light up. Isn't it about time we have this on laptops? What's taking so long? Apple has it. Why don't PC's?)
- In addition to the multi-card reader, I'd like to see a separate CF II slot as well.
If they add these features and make these changes, in addition to its other current specs, THEN they would have the ultimate laptop. I've been waiting for SOMEONE to make a flagship laptop with these specs, but so far, none have. Makes me wish I could make these decisions for some of these companies.
Does anyone from these companies take note of what we're looking for? I know I'm not the only one who wants these specs. Many of us do.

ViewSonic busts out ViewDock display series for iPods {Engadget}
Sep 12th 2006 9:24PM I really like this monitor.
To me, I like the idea of having a built in multicard reader and USB ports, and the added plus of being able to dock my Ipod to charge it.
That how I see it. In other words, some people brought up the point that you could just launch iTunes and play media from your computer instead of docking your Ipod to do the same thing. But I don't think of the dock as being another way just to play media that's already on your computer, but just simply a convenient way to dock and charge your Ipod (especially since Apple docks aren't included with Ipods and cost extra). Hey, one less dock on my desk and one less cord to plug in, along with the other features to boot, all in a great looking monitor chassis with either a 19" or 22" screen. Can't beat that. This panel would also make a great addition to a Mac Mini (too bad those don't come in black).
I hope the res is WUXGA and the screen is glossy. If that's in order, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of these.
I do wish they'd make a 24" version. That would be even better.
Live shots of the Black Diamond $300,000 smartphone {Engadget}
Sep 12th 2006 9:06PM I completely agree with both Rick and Mike.
What on earth are the MORONS who make these phones and sell them for absurd prices thinking?!!!?
If you are wealthy and you spend this much money on a phone, you are the most pathetically irresponsible person on earth and an incredibly POOR steward of your money. Shame to anyone who even thinks of buying this.
Here's a recipe for $300,000:
1.) Take your 300K, spend $2000 and buy yourself the most incredibly feature rich PPC phone out there (along with accessories and software)...
2.) Then take the remaining $298,000, choose three or four people in need, and spend the money equally on each of them and help them completely evolve and alter their lives for the better: (payoff ALL of their bills; buy them a reliable brand new car; help them get into a better place to live and completely furnish the place with all new furniture; pay for a four-year education; pay for car, home, and health insurance coverage as well as rent and utilities for four years while they go to school full time to get a Bachelor's degree so they can focus and don't have to worry about money; pay for a whole new wardrobe, personal trainer, immediate health care and counseling (if they need it), and image consultant; give them some spending money for a computer, cell, food and whatever else they need) and mix well... Now THAT would change someone's life.
3.) Sit back and feel FANTASTIC about what you just did, keep them accountable, watch them evolve as the return on your investment.
Invest in people, not in this crud that fades. No one will think you're better for having a phone with technology that anyone can get ahold of simply because you have two little diamonds in it... they'll just think you're an idiot for wasting that much money on something so foolish.
Helping people... now there's a novel concept!
Apple acknowledges MacBook random shutdown problem {Engadget}
Sep 11th 2006 11:24PM Exactly, Keith. I'm glad you finally came to the truth.
But seriously, you need to relax. I think you must have had a forehead vein pop out while you wrote that. Keep that up, and your head will explode from the pressure. The truth is, Apple IS having a lot of problems lately.
To address a couple of things you mentioned, of course, PC's wouldn't have to deal with viruses quite as much if the PC industry would get rid of all their business and TAKE A POWER PLUNGE clear down to a 3-4% market share... you know, kinda like Apple. Viruses are the price you pay for utilizing the most popular computer product on the planet. And you can blame the losers who write viruses and spread them around for all that, not the PC industry. Blaming PC's for what virus spreaders do would be like blaming Honda for people who steal them and commit vehicular homicide. Duh. Of course, we can always use Apple laptops with the mooing fans, or the unpredictable shutdowns, or the explosions, or, or, or...
I just don't like Apple's computer hardware. It's boring to me, terrible quality on their dull LCD screens, their desktops are barely upgradeable (except for their tower - and even that has more limits than a PC), and their laptops are missing things that you can find anywhere on even the ultraportable PC laptops (Cardbus slot, multicard reader? (And more...) Hello?). Look at the Sony SZ portables - they smear these stupid MacBook Pros in terms of quality and features every day of the week.
I see all sorts of new designs from PC manufacturers, so what the grunt are you talking about? Which of course, would make sense considering that Apple is the only Apple manufacturer on earth and PC manufacturers are a dime a dozen.
And you're wrong when you say that Apple makes cheap junk. It's certainly NOT cheap. It's some of the most expensive junk on the market.
And yes, it IS much better to be able to build a computer if you can. And yes, Windows IS beautiful. And yes, Apple does suck - sometimes.
Have a nice day!
