Rumor: Mac OS X 10.6 to debut at WWDC 08? {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jun 4th 2008 1:34PM Cougar makes sense if they get rid of universal apps. OSX is a mature operating system (not in a bad way, just that it has been around for a while and is "experienced") and it would suddenly be interested in only young machines.

USB AutoRunner launches apps or documents when you plug in a flash drive {Download Squad}

May 7th 2008 1:40PM If it works, this is great. I tried to get Portable Firefox to open a webpage I had saved on a USB drive once for memory sticks we were giving away at a tradeshow booth. This tool would have made it much easier.

April's Green Challenge: Socket to me {Green Daily}

Apr 22nd 2008 7:25PM If money is not an issue, you might consider LED bulbs over CFL. They have come a long way in the last few years. Now there are a lot of options to replace your current bulbs without looking "weird" or having overly blue light. The cost is still up there, but that is changing too.

Ask TUAW: Remote file access, converting images to CMYK, VNC on OS X, Time Machine and more {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Apr 21st 2008 12:13PM Jethran,

You might check out clonezilla. While Their website doesn't go into it, a quick google search finds several people who get versions to work on the mac. Might be worth a look at least.

Create easy to remember, hard to guess passwords with Password Bird {Download Squad}

Apr 11th 2008 3:00PM If you gave me those words, I would tell you that "Simon Loves Technology!" is a better choice, both in security and in terms of remembering. Long live passphrases!

New York 2008: Motive Industries' muscular X Prize entry vehicle needs a name {Autoblog Green}

Mar 24th 2008 3:12PM It is vaguely reminiscent of a smart roadster, except hit with the ugly stick several times. Sad.

WashUP puts laundry above your toilet {Green Daily}

Mar 24th 2008 3:06PM While I wouldn't be terribly excited about having this take up space in my small bathroom, the idea is really great. My washing machine is on the other side of the wall from my toilet currently; if someone offered a product like this, punching a hole between the rooms would be easy enough for the benefits we would receive.

iPhone developer rejection letter mass mailing {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Mar 14th 2008 2:19PM Who edited this letter?

"As this time, the iPhone Developer Program is available to a limited number of developers and we plan to expand during the beta period."

should read

At this time, the iPhone Developer Program is available to only a limited number of developers but we plan to expand during the beta period.

The "but" could also have been replaced with a "though"

Not that I really like being the grammar-nazi, but this seems like a pretty major error for a corporate mailing.

TSA explains MacBook Air grounding: just doing its job {Engadget}

Mar 13th 2008 11:58AM It has a big apple on the lid. How hard would it be for them to go to the Apple website and see if this was legit? Even if you aren't up on the latest tech, you should still be able to find it on the intertubes.

Ericsson exec sees WiFi hotspots becoming the new telephone booths {Engadget}

Mar 10th 2008 3:06PM With FON, you pay for your connection at home, but then you share it out. In return, you can use the FON APs other people have set up. This makes a lot more sense to me than pay-to-use hotspots like those found at Starbucks. It's not free, but you were going to need something at home anyway, so you are giving up very little to gain access across the globe. It also works easily with Skype phones.
