Apple trims push notification out of newest iPhone firmware beta {Engadget}

Aug 17th 2008 8:18PM Raheem,

I'm assuming your iPhone was purchased pre-2.0. 1.1.4 was quite stable and if that is the most important thing to you, maybe you should go back to that. Not many phones have so many features added to it so quickly. If you don't like the bugs, go back to the stable software. You should buy and rate a product based on what is available at the time of purchase. Anything added later is icing on the cake, so to speak. They will get the bugs worked out, they are just moving a bit too quickly because they have entered a very competitive market.

My last phone was a Windows mobile smartphone and I was never able to install an upgraded OS onto it, nor was it ever as stable as a 1.1.4 iPhone. It's amazing to me how high people's expectations are becoming.

Foreign Object Debris detection and removal systems bring safety bots to the airports {Engadget}

Aug 9th 2008 12:34PM The blades in the engine are titanium. That doesn't matter though because the bots would probably be made heavy enough so they couldn't be picked up by the intake. Also, they can be shaped so that the wheels of the planes would just push it out of the way if the bot happened to get in the way.

Jul 25th 2008 3:55PM "When people start stealing applications from the App Store by installing them on several devices, then the prices will creep up"

I'll be more likely to buy your app if I can also install it on my wife's iphone. Otherwise, it's going to be more difficult to justify my purchase of said app to her. Loosen up a little. You'll still get lots of sales if your program is interesting, well made, and fairly priced.

Purdue researchers want tiny refrigerators cooling your PC {Engadget}

Jul 25th 2008 8:33AM "making parts better sometimes has the drawback of making things hotter. I for one am up for them keeping systems cooler then improving the parts and repeating that cycle."

For processors, that only happens when you drive them past certain design criteria. The core2duo chip, for instance, is many times faster and many times cooler running than Cyrix processors 10 years ago. Intel and AMD are moving towards increasing numbers of cores instead of number of megahertz. Once OS's evolve to take advantage of this (snow leopard is an example) we should see huge gains without having to greatly increase heat output.

Actually, continually improving processors do that and they don't introduce unnecessary cost and complication.

Jul 20th 2008 8:52AM Cydia is not new. It's been around for nearly a year. It is not nearly as good for regular users as installer and for now seems best suited for developer types. I hope Installer is updated soon.
