AMPS didn't exist in the rest of the world? Shock, horror, stop the presses! I suppose Hong Kong, China, Mexico, Brazil,Brunei, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Russia, Vietnam, South Korea, Singapore,Sri Lanka, Thailand, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Lebanon, Pakistan, and quite a few places in Africa and many other places I didn't mention. Prior to GSM, AMPS was the most widely deployed mobile phone standard in the world.
RockBand for the Wii??? Nintendo theme track! Super Mario, Zelda, etc.... just sayin'. Of course someone'd have to write bass and drums.... not to mention lyrics.
A few votes:

Pocketsurfer 2
OLPC
Clearwire (Ok so it's a service, perhaps questionable)
DDR3

@JeffDM:

The salient point is not to update NOW. There's no benefit to doing so. If the tradeoff is subtle changes vs. dead iPhone; I'm going to pick subtle changes and keep using my very happily functional phone. The iPhone will be unlockable; by law it HAS to be by the carrier. What can be done legitimately can be done illegitimately. It's not like they're hacking DirecTV or something that was never intended. As for jailbreak; not as sure about that but it's an OS ergo it will have vulnerabilities. Patience.
Expansys offers preorders on just about anything that's announced. They. Are. The. WORST. If it isn't in stock, don't bother. They use the luck fulfillment method. If you get what you ordered, you're in luck! Items ship late or not at all. What you get is often a different version than what was advertised (E.G. advertised as unbranded yet a branded version is shipped). They have local sites everywhere that assure consistent lack of quality service. *NOT* a fan.
I love E-ink. I looooove E-ink. I'd cuddle up to the company and kiss it if I could. The Sony eReader rocks so hard I get a concussion just from using it. I'm way ADD and tend to read 5 books at once, going from book to book. Travel, especially overseas, precludes bringing the 'library' as most of the books are 500 pages and up AND hardback. Fitting all that AND a ton of Literotica stories in a small portable device with super long battery life? It is way way good.

This watch will be replacing a white gold Rolex Daytona (with Meteorite face). Happily.
Holographic storage exists. It's called the Tapestry 300r. 300GB a disc, 20MB/sec. Slow. Expensive. $18k for the drive, $160/disc for 300gb. Optical is for archival storage; it (supposedly) outlasts tape. For immediate backup needs? No way. Tape rules. Ultrium rocks.
Big problem with almost ALL the CECT/Chinaphones... they only use dual-band 900/1800 radios. Given that tri-band is pretty much a given in almost every phone these days (if not quadband) I can only imagine that they're chewing up surplus dual-band radios OR they don't want 1900Mhz in there to preclude use in the US for some reason. Fortunately, my rockin YF718 Retrobrick (a heady HK$450, or just under $60) not only sports 1900Mhz, but also a complete rip of the SLVR L6 interface. No USB or data so I can't SEEM edit though. :(
Got back from Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore on June 11th. They weren't selling the Touch at all yet. Bought one off Ebay for $525 and had it that week. The cellphone mall at Mongkok in HK is AMAZING but they definitely don't always get the newest latest immediately. They didn't have the Nokia 8600/Luna yet either. They DID, however, have the Samsung/Softbank SC707II. Web browsing may not work but the phone is still WAY sweet.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I own an iPhone 3G and I'm looking for a decent speaker / alarm clock for it. I am going to listen music in a mid-sized room, so I want nice quality speakers with solid bass. I also want to use it as an alarm clock, so it would be great if there is such a feature. The price can be low-mid to mid-high range. I was looking at the Klipsch iGroove SXT; it's powerful, slick and the reviews are good, but it doesn't have an alarm clock feature. It's no deal breaker if I can set it up from the iPhone, but I'm not sure. Thanks!"
