I stumbled on the changes this morning. It looks much better. The bigger icons are nice. The white background is refreshing.

The screen shots are HUGE and take up too much screen real estate, even on my 1920 x 1200 monitor! They could scale them down by 1/3 and lose nothing.

The new truncated to non-existant app descriptions are disappointing. Being forced to look for the obscure AND miniscule "More…" button is certainly not much help. This is part is a serious DOWNgrade!

I'd also like to see simple stats, like how many copies sold and the star ratings in list views of apps.

Apple STILL needs a decent, 'expert' level search function in the App Store. There's so much stuff now, it's insane trying to find something if you don't know it's there.

Also, there need to be more App categories or sub-categories. "Books"? Wow, that really narrows it down, eh?
These things sent the old Dork-O-Mometer off the scale!

I'd like some for my office, or to give to other geeky friends, but the GF would have my head if I brought them into the living room!

Not being able to examine them before buying, $40 seems pretty steep for an impulse buy.

@Jordan ... and only a bigger douche would give a damn. ;^)
Yes, the controls are extremely subtle.

The sounds, music and graphics are all first rate and lots of fun.
Mice aren't ergonomic.

Your hand is in a constant state of tension gripping the thing and they waste desk space.

Trackballs and tablets are ergonomic.

Check out the new Wacom Pen & Touch Tablet. Pressure sensitive pen and multi-touch input. Cool!

USB won for keyboards and mice.

For data transfers, FireWire remains the superior technology.
FireWire 400 beats USB2. FireWire 800 is faster still.
FireWire 3200 is out there, we're waiting for it.

My guess is that Light Peak will trump FireWire and USB.
It's amazing how many people balk at what looks to be a clearly superior technology simply because the name "APPLE" has some connection to it!

Apple has managed to get to where it is technologically, because they replace older, less efficient technologies with newer, superior technologies, to the point where they even retired the old "Classic" Mac OS for the UNIX-based mac OS X. Yes, it can be a hassle and a bit painful and even a bit expensive for Mac users, but ultimately we have superior technologies built into our machines. Meanwhile, Microsoft still supports a slew of 1980's "standards" (parallel ports?) that simply drag the platform down in terms of speed, reliability and flexibility.

As far as Light Peak goes, it sounds incredibly exciting! Try to imagine ONE OPTICAL PORT STANDARD to handle every interconnect on your computer, handheld device and phone! No longer would you need a slew of incompatible cables for USB, Ethernet, FireWire, VGA/DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort. You wouldn't have to worry that your old USB1.1 devices were slowing down your USB2 devices, for instance

That sounds like a BAD IDEA?
I don't care if Satan, George W. Bush and Adolf Hitler collaborated on Light Peak! It sounds great!
Jesus F. Christ, get real!

What was the famous Bill Gates quote? "No computer will ever need more than 640K of RAM"?
With thinking like that... you get... Vista and Steve Ballmer.
The graphics look pretty good.

I can always use another time-waster game!
;-)
Wow that process was convoluted.

I usually clone my boot drive every week or two, so that I have a full backup that works in tandem with my separate TimeMachine hard drive. ALSO I can boot from the cloned drive if I need to run a repair application like Disk Warrior.

So, to do a complete clean system installation, this is what I do...

Run Cocktail.
Reboot from older cloned hard drive (we'll call it Drive B).
Run Disk Warrior. When it's done...
Reboot back to usual Drive A.
With SuperDuper! clone the now repaired Drive A to Drive B.

When that's done...
THEN I boot into the Leopard disk and Install Leopard onto Drive A.
When it's time, let Migration Assistant do it's thing.
After that I run the latest COMBO System Updater (NEVER use the point release Updates)
When that's done and it reboots, I let Software Update install all current Updates. (I used to do all that manually, but it takes MUCH more time.)

DONE.

Later, if necessary, I can manually move things from Drive B to Drive A.
1984. 128K Mac.
Or maybe it was 1983, with the Apple Lisa?
I'd love to see a simple, fun flight sim on my iPod touch, like the old Mac Hellcats.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"What's the best gaming laptop for under 1,500 bucks? I had my eye on the P7805u (Gateway), but it seems Best Buy has run out for the time being. Also, as a secondary question, I like the specs on brands such as iBUYPOWER and CyberPower and the like, but are they reliable? I'm a little worried about buying labels that aren't huge like Dell, Gateway, etc. Thanks!"
