Microsoft group manager: Windows 7 borrowing 'Mac look and feel' (updated: Microsoft responds) {Engadget}
Nov 11th 2009 4:11PM @tyba I don't understand people that have problems with Windows PCs freezing on them. I've had 2 different IBM Thinkpads for about 3 years and have not had a single freeze happen.
Yes, programs have crashed the system has become unstable and required a reboot, but freezes? That's about as rare as a Blue screen around these parts. This isn't Windows 2000 anymore.
Jabra STONE Bluetooth headset review {Engadget}
Oct 23rd 2009 12:57PM Good thing for Jabra that no one will check below the jump and just think: "So cool!" without bothering to watch the actual review. Engadget - stop burying the lead - skewer this crapgadget!

Oct 20th 2009 2:05PM Hey, did Apple announce something today? I can't find any references on Engadget.
QNAP's NAS lineup sacrifices another bay, creates TS-110 {Engadget}
Oct 19th 2009 8:53AM I use the TS-101, which is great. It has a USB and eSATA port on the back, which I use to create a mirrored copy about once a week. I'm not accessing it enough to warrant RAID support, just need a weekly image or so. The best part of the TS-101 is that it's fanless, which makes it perfect to sit under my TV and serve up media. It appears that the TS-110, while more powerful (mySQL support is a nice addition) requires the fan.

Video: TOTO robot catches tennis balls, hopes for a deeper purpose in life {Engadget}
Sep 30th 2009 11:24AM I wonder how this thing would do with a curve ball or -- a knuckleball. I seems to calculate flight based on various parameters from the camera - I wonder how advanced it actually is. What if there is a 20 MPH wind in the room? What if I throw a ping pong ball? TOTO 2.0!

Sep 28th 2009 5:17PM Did it look like a last gasp when they did it last January? You would have been wrong then too.

Apple pushes to change subscription accounting rules {Engadget}
Sep 14th 2009 8:38PM I never understood why Apple has to do this funny accounting stuff. Blackberry never charges for new maintenance releases, or whole OS upgrades (4.2 - 4.5 - 5.0). Zune doesn't charge for OS patches and upgrades. I know that Apple wants to make a quick buck on the iPod Touch users (although basically no one bought that upgrade according to Apple). Shouldn't they just be giving this away because it unlocks better apps from the store? I was thinking of spending money on the MLB app or something, but when I found out I had to upgrade to 3.0, the cost was too high and not worth it.
In general, I don't advocate giving away software, especially software that your engineers have spent many hours on. However, when this software enables your customers to spend more money on your product, you have to consider giving it away. For instance: see Microsoft upgrading the Xbox for Netflix and movie downloads.
