I am also a big Trek fan, and it took me until the end of the second season or so before I really started to enjoy Voyager. I'm glad to see that iTunes is actually offering a price that is competitive, since in many cases it seems like it's cheaper (or about as cheap) to just buy the DVDs of many shows.
Whether or not you think Apple should charge $1.99 for the upgrade, this isn't remotely the same thing. The News Channel is just additional software, just like the additional software that all computer makers (Apple included) will often distribute for free. If the Wii could read DVDs and Nintendo unlocked that functionality for free, then it would be a good comparison.
Err, I assume she meant that Photoshop 1.07 takes as long to load as the current version does now (on a modern machine).
Please make it so the video doesn't automatically play.
The Dick Van Dyke Show!
I can't get this to work in Safari on any of my computers (running Tiger) but it does work with something like TextEdit. Any ideas why?
Looks like the keyboard and the glossy screen are going to be love it/hate it sorts of things. For the record, though, I think the aluminum PowerBooks (and presumably the MacBook Pros) have the best keyboards I've ever used on a portable. Light years beyond Apple's previous portable keyboards, and far from "mushy."
Even if it worked, the very concept of a "voice activated remote" seems rather ludicrous to me. Until we get artificial intelligence to the Star Trek level, I think using buttons is always going to be faster and less error-prone than any kind of voice recognition.
You know, there are a lot of people who must use Office (as opposed to Open Office) to maintain compatibility with other people's files. Yes, OO can open and save Office files, but not without losing some formating in many cases.
These have been around for a long time. I have one. Maybe they reduced the price or added a "sled" for the new iPods, but it's not a new product.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"What is the best wireless surround sound speaker solution? I have a home theater where running wires is just not feasible. I have my own speakers, so I don't want a system that has speakers with integrated wireless. I've done a far amount of research and have only come across a few companies that even offer a reasonable solution: KEF, Kenwood and Rocketfish. Is there anything else out there? What do you recommend? Thank you!"
