Why does the cable have to be a plain vanilla cable? Lots of factories use special cables and hacked-up connectors to build their burn-in and test stations.
The CableCARD issue isn't the dealbreaker for me, it's the rumored lack of component and S-video inputs plus the lack of an IR blaster that has me worried. That means no satellite compatibility.

Do they REALLY want to screw over DirecTV that bad? The DishNetwork people get caught in the middle.
Why is the oval Nintendo logo backwards on the back of the machine?
That six-channel view is a hack. Dish pre-builds the screen at the uplink facility and all you can do is move a cursor from screen to screen to change the audio feed. There's no way a Dish Network receiver can watch and decode six channels at once with a single feed from the horn.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm pretty much a complete noob when it comes to camera stuff. My wife loves to take pictures, though. So much so that she literally wore out her first point and shoot camera, and the Kodak Z712 I bought for her less than two years ago is starting to act up as well. To compound the matter, we are expecting our first born sometime next year. I fear the Kodak just isn't going to cut it any longer. What would be the best starter DSLR to get? She hates missing photo opportunities due to camera 'lag' so speed would definitely be at the top of the list. Photo quality and features would be next. Price should be no more than $800. I'm not interested in video capabilities."
